About
My laboratory’s goal is to address fundamental and therapeutic questions in immunology by innovating approaches to visualize and manipulate T cells. The ultimate aim of our work is to manipulate T cells to control immunologically-mediated diseases, infection, cancer, and autoimmunity. As a pediatric immunologist, I care for children and adults with rare immune diseases, including primary immunodeficiencies, autoimmunity, or auto-inflammatory disorders. Specialties: Pediatric immunology, Primary immune deficiency, pediatric allergy, food allergy, asthma. T cell biology, mechanobiology, atomic force microscopy, costimulation

Experience

Professor and Division chief
The Division of Immunology, Allergy, and Rheumatology comprises clinical care, research, and education at UCLA in the Department of Pediatrics. Our clinical care encompasses the inborn errors of immunity (primary immune deficiencies and immune dysregulatory disorders), secondary immune deficiencies, pediatric rheumatological conditions including lupus and arthritis, autoinflammatory diseases, monogenic autoimmune disorders, food allergies, respiratory allergies, drug allergies, and other defects of tolerance. We conduct cutting-edge basic research in the areas of T cell biology and gene therapy. Our group performs translational and clinical research in gene therapies, immunomodulation to treat severe infections, food allergies, lupus, and other immune diseases. We run ACGME-certified programs in advanced fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology and Pediatric Rheumatology.

Co-Founder and Advisor
Microvolution, LLC
San Francisco Bay Area
Microvolution delivers software that deconvolves fluorescence microscopy images up to 200 times faster than other manufacturers by combining intelligent software programming with the power of a GPU (graphics processing unit).

Attending Physician
Stanford, CA
I see pediatric and adult patients in the Center for Genetic Immune Diseases Clinic. The clinic provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary services for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with chronic or unusual infections or primary immune deficiencies.

Assistant Professor
Stanford, CA
My research and teaching focus on cellular biophysics and immunology. We study how cells of the immune system are influenced in health and disease. I also care for children and adults with disorders of the immune system: primary immunodeficiencies and defects in tolerance such as asthma, allergies, and autoimmunity.
