My name is Maheen Khan, and I am an undergraduate at Johns Hopkins. I am studying neuroscience with a focus in systems, which emphasizes an understanding of neural circuits. Project: The Effect of Developmental Lead Exposure on DCX and Sp1 mRNA in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex and Hippocampus im Aged Long Evans Hooded Rats: An Assessment of Alzhiemer's Disease Suceptibility I worked in the Developmental Behavioral Neurotoxicology Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Lorenz S. Neuwrith, who studies the effect of environmental neurotoxicants on early brain development. Specifically, the effects of lead exposure on DCX and Sp1 gene expression were analyzed. I was tasked with optimizing the PCR products and standardizing the Sp1 detection method in this study.
