Visit King County Juvenile Detention Center

Temporary summer employment through the stimilus package working with newly released juveniles from detention, on house arrest, etc. They receive 1 school credit and are paid hourly to learn about Water Quality. This class is designed with field trips, field work, and community speakers to give students a holistic and transformative learning experience.

I have always worked for Hidmo Eritrean Restaurant, as a volunteer since its founding and then as a community partner through Communities Against Rape and Abuse (CARA). Recently, it has branched out into four distinct programs; Hidmo Media Projects, Hidmo Community Empowerment Project; Hidmo Entertainment; and Hidmo Restaurant & Catering. I support all programs, but focus on the infrastructure, community partnerships, steering committee, and volunteer coordination. I am supporting the development of this organization, so that it can expand its capacity, stabilize their programs, and provide an evaluative process to make the organization sustainable while keeping its grassroots and community center.

Connected with community partners that were in organizations that were in the arts, non-profit, grassroots, culturally specific, hiphop, and various other sectors to Hidmo programming like Lunch and Munch and Vision Crunch and Community Forums.

Organizing events, workshops, and presentations that center rape survivors and survivors of violence from marginalized communities to empower themselves and their communities and organize with an anti-rape lens and anti-oppression and intersectionality analysis.

Work with Roots Change Team with their mission to undo institutional racism and oppression and coordinate with guests of color and allies to for a group to educate, discuss, and give feedback on racism and the interlocking systems of oppression.

Outreach to street involved youth that are in or at risk of sexual exploitation through creating intervention and prevtion programming in the community and within the homeless youth drop-in services

I work for the Education and Employment Department at YouthCare. Specifically, I work with the Bridge Program with Commercially Sexually Exploited Children and Youth to find employment and educational opportunities by supporting their self-empowerment to explore options.

I take care of Washington Hall by supporting community members, renters, and anchor groups that utilized the hall for various purposes. I also connect, publicize, outreach, provide information and access to community members about accessing the hall and its events. Newly, I have become involved in the Oral History Project to interview community members from various historical times to capture the essence about how the hall was used and how community can carry on its legacy.

Through networking & cross cultural communications, arts & educational presentations and event planning & production, Uzuri Consulting & Productions contributes to the upliftment, enrichment, and holistic development of all people to reminds us all of our beauty, our survival, and our collective history. Uzuri means beautiful in Swahili and was given to the first born daughter of a Filipino migrant woman who married an African American US military man. It was given to her along with a Filipino name, so that through her birth, development, and education, her parents would not forget their roots, their journey, and where they came from.

Middle school is a critical time for development - especially for girls. As girls reach early adolescence, their self-esteem and interest in certain subjects is likely to plummet as a result of being bombarded by conflicting messages about femininity and achievement. Seattle Girls' School combats the trend of girls losing confidence before competence, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math, with a transformative experience for girls in grades 5-8. At SGS, girls are challenged to discover who they are and who they want to become. Our project-based curriculum, grounded in real-world experiences, offers endless opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and problem solving. We invite you to witness what countless visitors to our campus experience: poised, confident, and actively engaged students. Our alumnae, when reflecting on their educational experience as a whole, often attribute who they become and what they achieve to the transformative experiences they had at SGS - their middle school!

Hollow Earth Radio is the Pacific Northwest's freeform online radio station that presents a forum for underrepresented music, sounds and perspectives. We support the local music community in Seattle, King County, Washington state, and the larger Pacific Northwest by focusing on found sound, field recordings, forgotten music, local musicians, bedroom recordings, low-fi demos, dreams, storytelling, and things that feel real. We expose works that have yet to be unearthed or have long been dormant. We acknowledge and celebrate raw talent and imperfections, and encourage bands who've never had their music air on a radio before to take a chance with us.Not only do we talk with musicians, but we talk with music supporters like small label owners, DIY venue curators & music bloggers to reveal the stories behind the art, and learn about the actual people involved in creating the music culture in our area. We encourage community participation and offer the local community access to training and knowledge on how to run an online radio station.

The Ambassador Project uses OtB as a hub for diverse cultural leaders, innovators, and creators to connect around art and civic dialogue. OtB AMBASSADORS STRENGTHEN community ties as they lend their voices and perspectives to OtB. HELP OtB reach new audiences by leading projects. SHAPE shared spaces and social activities. PARTNER with each other and OtB. IDENTIFY issues in the creative community where OtB can serve as a platform for dialogue or a resource.
