The best way to learn how to communicate is to forget everything you thought you knew. That’s what I had to do as a M&A junior analyst at Phoenix Tower International in Paris, France. Not only was I thousands of miles from home, tasked with analyzing a huge quantity of unfamiliar data that would impact the ability of my colleagues to do their jobs at every level of the organization, but I had to navigate different demands and personalities all while communicating in a language that was not my native one. My most recent position as an Investment Operations analyst at HighVista Strategies in Boston was again an exercise of relearning: both the language of finance and the nuances of American corporate culture. I was responsible for facilitating the end-to-end operational life cycle of a complex fund focused predominantly on alternatives. Effective communication was paramount when leading training initiatives and reconciling discrepancies between teams against tight deadlines. Now, I’m excited to be launching my postgrad career at RBC’s NYC office in a role that unites my talent in data analysis with my knack for solving problems and building connections.
