Founded in 1901 by John D. Rockefeller, the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research was the country’s first institution devoted exclusively to biomedical research. McLean Hospital is an international center for psychiatric treatment, education and research, founded in 1811. As the largest psychiatric facility of Harvard Medical School, McLean offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of behavioral and psychiatric illnesses. It also offers an expanded array of specialized academic and clinical programs for children and adolescents, as well as dedicated services for older adults with Alzheimer's and other dementias.

The Executive Director leads the growth of Sidra's technology transfer, technology related business development, and commercialization initiatives to support Sidra's mission to become a world-class academic health center, focusing on women's and children's health. The Executive Director of Sidra Ventures leads the development of the commercial innovation capability at Sidra to catalyze the development of new products and services benefitting patients in Qatar, the region and worldwide. Sidra expects to become a regional leader in moving innovation and research into the commercial marketplace and looks to the Sidra Ventures to play a leading role in realizing that goal. The Executive Director - Sidra Ventures leads the introduction of entrepreneurship to Sidra and the broader region and plays an important role in external relations. In conjunction with management, acts as a key decision maker determining which external organizations to partner with both for commercialization strategies and scientific collaborations. The MBL is an international center for research, education, and training in biology, biomedicine, and environmental science. The oldest private marine laboratory in the country, the MBL has a year-round staff of more than 270 scientists and support personnel working in such fields as cell, developmental, and regenerative biology, ecology, microbiology, genetics and metagenomics, neurobiology, sensory biology, and biodiversity informatics. Centaurus is a private biotechnology company, co-founded by Dr. Herlands, focused on the use of sialylated IgG to treat certain autoimmune diseases that primarily effect women. $47 million Series A investment which included Biogen IDEC and MedImmune Ventures in the syndicate; Negotiated the sale of the Company simultaneous with the closing of the Series A round. Centaurus changed its name to Virdante and was acquired by Momenta (ticker: MNTA)
