My concentration was a widely engaging study of revolution, reform, historical materialism and political economy. The concentration was organized through a serious of serious and probing questions. Through these questions, and using philosophical texts like Locke, de las Casas, and Marcuse, I examined a series of dissident and revolution movements including but not limited to the Haitian Revolution, the Cuban Revolution, the Velvet Revolution, the Solidarnosc movement and the Prison Industrial Complex to name a few. This multi-faceted concentration allowed me to pose and attempt to answer serious problems, to engage with texts in meaningful ways, and to problem solve on my feet for my final thesis defense. As a creative writer I submitted and read at many NYU and local-NYC events and literary magazines and I briefly curated RedHill Magazine as the poetry content manager.
