TypeClub is Wesleyan's premier design, advertising, and marketing student organization. TypeClub is dedicated to not only fostering further interest in these fields, but also to developing design solutions for the greater Wesleyan campus. This means working with various venues to create better-designed advertisements, challenging students to think differently about the space around them, and using visual and architectural design to solve problems that we identity at Wesleyan.

From my dorm room during my senior year at Wesleyan University, I led the full-stack product design for a startup company revolutionizing how college students buy and sell textbooks to one another. I worked with Sencha Touch 2's HTML5 framework and Tumblr API to create an image gallery fetching images from Wesleyan University's Tumblr photography blog.

Assisted in the publicity of GP events and in the proliferation of the GP branding through social media networking, print and web advertisements, and on-the-ground publicizing. Utilized technical design skills in Photoshop and Illustrator to create print and web ads that appear in numerous citywide publications. Manned the information cart and delivered excellent customer service by answering guests' inquiries and concerns.

As a product design apprentice, I assist developers and designers in creating real web and mobile applications at thoughtbot, a web and mobile development, client-based company that specializes in Ruby on Rails and iOS, with offices in Boston, San Francisco, Stockholm, and Boulder. Our clients include start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.

Delivered excellent customer service by addressing inquiries from customers in person and by telephone, Retrieved parcel mail for customers. Utilized computer application PEOPLESOFT to process incoming parcel. Developed great organizational skills by shelving parcel in alphabetical/categorical order. Trained new hires.

As a Product Designer at thoughtbot, inc., I design and implement engaging user experiences on web and mobile applications. Working closely with clients and my teammates, I assist in leading a product's vision end-to-end: I conduct product and customer research, create a gamut of design exercises to test concepts, determine the information architecture, deliver mockups and wireframes, refine the visual design and branding, run usability testings, implement in HTML/CSS/Javascript, and iterate. At thoughtbot, I design for the responsive web by working with Ruby on Rails and some Javascript frameworks, and also for the native iOS platform. I also participate in Sales and Hiring.

At Wesleyan University, I received a truly interdisciplinary education that has been invaluable to my career as a designer. I majored in American Studies with a concentration in Race and Ethnic Studies, but I took courses in these topics: Typography, Graphic Design, Drawing, Painting, Religion, Astronomy, Computer Science, Economics, Art History, African American Literature, French Language, and more. Due to the nature of a designer's responsibility to conceptualize and build ideas, my exposure to many different topics has taught me how to synthesize different schools of thoughts and find connections across the various disciplines I've been trained in. As Wesleyan, I discovered a desire to "make an impact" on those around me and in my community. This can manifest itself it many ways, whether it means providing career mentorship to a peer, volunteering at a local community center, building a product that will improve others' lives, or simply being kind and patient.
