The Inquiry Group will review COSEE OCEAN-identified education materials and other resources, examine current dissemination activities by COSEE centers across the nation, and recommend ways to improve dissemination to the informal science education field. The goal of COSEE OCEAN and the IG is to explore the opportunities and barriers to producing an ocean literate society, one that is able to participate in informed decision-making on ocean policy.

* Served as local coordinator for the Michigan Humanities Council project which brought the Smithsonian Institution exhibit Key Ingredients and MSU Museum exhibit Michigan Foodways to Cheboygan. Included applying for participation in project and all aspects of administration: planning * fundraising * volunteer recruitment, training and supervision * budgeting * publicity * and programming. Programs were held for the year and half preceding the arrival of the exhibits, and intensively during the six weeks the exhibits were on site. Strengths of the program included diversity of programming and community involvement.

Engaged in a variety of activities relating to administration and public programming including developing educational resources, implementing teacher workshops, staff training, staff supervision, special event planning, visitor research, grant writing, brochure development, long-range planning, and accessibility for visitors with disabilities.

Worked at a range of historic sites and in several roles for the society including historic interpreter at Historic Fort Snelling and the Alexander Ramsey House, collections intern at the Oliver Kelley Farm and education department intern at the Minnesota History Center, as a training presenter at the Alexander Ramsey House, and a Visitor Research Interviewer for the Minnesota History Center. Leadership roles included supervising seasonal staff and special event planning at Historic Fort Snelling and on the planning team for the Interpreter’s Conference for the Minnesota Historical Society.

Taught museum studies courses to members of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians as part of an IMLS grant funded project. Courses: Introduction to Museums Studies, Spring 2009; Museum Education/Interpretation, Spring 2010.

Consultant for the Visitor Studies Association in their partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Informal Science Education.
