My responsibilities include overseeing new patterns when they arrive, through the gating and rigging process, molding, pouring and finally, I give the castings a quality dimensional inspection before they leave the door. Other duties include calibrations of our spectrometer, hardness tester, weigh scales, core machines, and sand controls. In the pattern shop I oversee basic pattern shop operations, and I am responsible for re-mounting of patterns when need be.

I learned how to build simple to moderately complicated foundry patterns using older, classic bench-crafting techniques. I learned how to make patterns out of wood, using rough-cut mahogany and poplar. I also learned how to cast patterns using urethane and other reproduction plastics. Other duties included building mounting boards for Cope and Drag setups, pattern mounting, and finishing. I also learned how to hand-operate 2 different HAAS 3-axis Vertical Milling Machines.

I was responsible for maintenance of the foundry's patterns, and making sure they were ready for production on a daily basis. Other duties included proper gating and rigging of new patterns upon arrival.
