About
What kind of earth will you build? Creating dreamers for the future. Educator with an interest in alternative school models, character development, and integral curriculum. That is to say, the balanced development of the whole child. Experienced in microschool startups with high community involvement and parent engagement. Instructs learners based on moral discipline, positive thinking, and mutual cooperativity. Learners take leadership roles, help, and support one another. Play forms an essential part of the day, both indoors and outdoors. This is when they bond socially. Projects are engaging, hands-on, and collaborative, and may also be independently driven, as determined by the learners' interests. Nature plays an active part in these learning models, as does a healthy diet. Many parents in these communities are outdoor enthusiasts, take nature hikes, and plant home gardens. Acton Academy Del Mar Learning studio guide and developer of curricula that grasps students’ interest, facilitating them to acquire knowledge through philosophical and scientific investigative methods, rather than by rote learning. Guides students to answer their own questions and teaches them to discern if their answers are valid. Fosters learning environments where students drive group projects, mentor and help one another. Challenges students to question their facilitator, as necessary, recognizing that instructors are fallible. If, and when, a student corrects a procedure, it boosts not only their self-respect and self-confidence but it builds trust in our group process and benefits everyone. This builds a very strong culture. Character development takes center stage, and everyone is held accountable to the class values. The result is a joyful learning environment where students take pride in their learning and active responsibility. Rainbow Gardens Established by a parent co-op, combining three homeschools that ran during the pandemic shutdown of 2020, and conducted under the guidance of an experienced school owner. Families provided the rental space, constructed a mud kitchen for outside play, and volunteered in class. Families funded enrichment classes, art, and karate, held off-site at one of their homes nearby. A strong community model, rooted in mutual values, where parents actively participated in their school and children thrived.
