Created and implemented the company’s vision including ensuring that the company maintains high social responsibility. - Brought in two academic scientific co-founders, Prof Carolyn Bertozzi and Prof Carlito Lebrilla, and integrated strengths of all cofounders to come up with a unifying vision for the company. Identified the unique application of mass spectrometry (MS) and artificial intelligence (AI) in multi-omics. Strategic selection of unlocking glycobiology through glycoproteomics (MS analysis of glycoproteins) as the business differentiation factor turning InterVenn Biosciences’ business into sector leader. Led the development of the company’s short- and long-term strategy including glycobiology’s potential for novel drug target discovery, patient stratification, and companion diagnostics applications. Maintained awareness of the competitive market landscape, expansion opportunities, and industry developments. Set strategic goals and made sure they are measurable and describable. Led the design, development, and implementation of the research agenda of InterVenn Biosciences for value creation from ZERO TO ONE, including introduction of industry standards to academic workflows, and design of software quantification solutions for rapid peak picking of thousands of peaks. Integrated clinical and computational skills of consultants to MS-workflow development to create strategic clinical designs and back-end data quality metrics for AI-powered biomarker discovery and confirmation. Recruited, supervised, and mentored R&D team members. Educated executive team (CEO, CBO, CPO and Head of Computational Biology) and the software dev team leads on the MS analysis of glycopeptides. Glycoproteomics and MS for ovarian cancer diagnosis biomarker discovery.

Unicorn biotech startup acquired by Abbvie for over $6Bn Pioneer of fit-for-purpose implementation of mass spec workflows for accelerated drug development. First in the biopharma industry to implement native LC-MS for drug load distribution and DAR determination for QC Release Testing of ADC in Phase I clinical trials. Native LC-MS was included in the Control System of a Phase I ADC (started early 2016). Spear-headed introduction of mass spectrometry from Early Stage Research to Early Stage Development to support company’s pioneering efforts in promoting accelerated drug development. First biotech startup with timeline targets for drug development shortened from 20 years to 10 years from target discovery to FDA approval. From Feb 2014-July 2015, single-handedly provided lean support for all R&D LC-MS analysis needs at Stemcentrx that led the creation of a dedicated mass spectrometry function with the investment of about $10 million worth of resources for broad range implementation in drug development.

As the Group Leader of Analytical Development and Quality Control at Sutro Biopharma (IPO 2018), I led a team of five PhD and MS scientists who developed various analytical methods to characterize various protein therapeutics manufactured using Sutro's proprietary XpressCF protein synthesis platform. We also introduced rapid mass spec workflows supporting various aspects of drug development all the way to FDA regulatory submissions. All data were used by cross functional teams responsible for portfolio creation and advancing leads for human clinical trials.

• Managed the ELLI-Genentech site, overseeing a pilot team of 10 scientists to enhance collaboration with Genentech. • Spearheaded recruitment efforts, resulting in the hiring of 20 additional senior and junior scientists. • Conducted performance evaluations and coaching, fostering a positive team environment and high morale.

• Managed laboratory operations for Prof. Julie Leary’s research group, ensuring optimal functionality of equipment. • Conducted routine maintenance and repairs on various mass spectrometry instruments, enhancing reliability and performance. • Provided training and support to UC Davis Campus MS users, fostering a collaborative research environment. • Developed and analyzed custom methods for clients, resulting in improved data accuracy and client satisfaction.

Investigated the kinetic parameters and mechanism of recombinant human tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase -1 and -2 using mass spectrometry techniques.

Completed: 30 units out of 36 Focus: GC-MS and GC-ECD instrumentation, absolute quantification, US EPA, analytical chemistry Application: environmental monitoring of pollutants such as PCBs and OCPs in soil, water and food samples Highlight: Zero to one creation of trace analytics laboratory operations including recruiting for team of 4 scientists. Operations were 24 hours a day, 6 days a week for continuous analysis of samples.

Undergraduate thesis: protein intact mass analysis using Finnigan MAT95ST BE double sector high-resolution mass spectrometer equipped with electrospray ionization.
