As part of the young people's steering group at Nottingham Contemporary, Collabor-8 Collective is funded by Circuit, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Tate and Nottinghamshire City Council. We meet weekly to organise monthly creative workshops, social events and have recently worked together to organise a free arts festival which took place on the 6th and 7th of November. 'Affinity: A Collabor-8 Festival' was an initiative to encourage young people, aged 15-25, into Nottingham Contemporary and was designed in correlation to the current exhibition, 'Alien Encounters'.

My position required me to provide marketing support for 'Affinity: A Collabor-8 Festival' at Nottingham Contemporary art gallery. The festival was an initiative designed to encourage a target of 3,000 young people, aged 15-25, into the gallery to experience and promote the young creative talents of Nottingham. My main duties were to provide support in: • Press - Copywriting cover letters and coverage invitations. Providing interviews for local and regional press (including BBC Midlands, Left Lion and Creative Quarter). • Social Media - Scheduling sporadic and dissimilar daily SM posts across multiple platforms. Sourcing and posting audio and visual material. Providing informational support and engagement with public, press, festival artists and influential bloggers. • Research - Collating information of influential local and regional media channels to reach our target audiences. Creating distribution plans for marketing material. Research of Affinity artists, performers and organisations to provide informed and genuinely engaged information to press and social media. • PR - Building and initiating sustainable relationships with local organisations, educational departments and arts collectives through email correspondence and on a face-to-face basis. Engagement across social media platforms. Providing presentations to young peoples groups and schools. Attending events to promote the work of Nottingham Contemporary, Collabor-8 and Affinity.

During my internship with Hanover Project I gained an exciting, invaluable, first hand experience working behind the scenes of a contemporary gallery space. My main responsibilities included: • Marketing Materials: copywriting, sourcing images and creating gallery guides and promotional material for upcoming events and exhibitions. • Emails: updating mailing lists. Building and sending emails to the public, students, regional institutes and press. Creating and sending press packs prior to events. • Finance and budgeting: after funds had been collated I had to split the costs between marketing materials and preview night expenses. Keeping and logging receipts. • Databases: updating mailing lists. • Documentation: photographing and filming events to be archived and posted to social media platforms. • Social Media: administrating and posting prior, during and post events to increase online visibility and visitation. I have worked closely with Hanover Project on numerous occasions with the curation and installation of many exhibitions. Working with the gallery coordinator, curators, artists and students. As a gallery technician I have assisted with: • Gallery Preparation: painting, sanding and general preparation of the gallery space. • Installation: measuring and installation of works with accuracy, in preparation to numerous exhibitions. • Curation: assisting Gallery Coordinator, Victoria Lucas, with curatorial decisions for multiple exhibitions. • Quality Control: assisting Artist, Flis Holland, during her self-titled solo exhibition to prepare and sand numerous steel platforms.
