Leora Korn
Senior Product Manager @ Skydio
About
I am an out-of-the-box-thinking product manager with a technical mechanical engineering background and a drive to creatively innovate for customers. I received my master’s degree in Integrated Product Design and bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. I currently work as a product manager at Skydio, owning wireless hardware and software across our platforms of autonomous flying robots.I thrive in fast-paced work environments, and have a track record for delivering elegant solutions to complex problems. I love working at the intersections between product management, mechanical engineering, design, and strategy. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, reading, gardening and volunteering on urban farms, and exploring new restaurants. Find projects of mine on my website @ leorakorn.com. I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Experience

Product Manager and Project Engineer
San Francisco Bay Area
• Lead product management for Glacier’s AI scanner, the computer vision system powering the recycling robot, and the data dashboard which provides real-time waste analytics to customers • Manage cross-functional R&D projects across hardware, software, operations, and machine learning in alignment with Glacier’s business objectives • Individually responsible for the deployment of 45% of the scanner and robot fleet, including building and maintaining key customer relationships with major brands and our first enterprise and fulfillment center clients • Manage development of new customer-facing software features by conducting user research, designing UI, and defining product requirements • Drive customer scanner self-installation initiative, eliminating on-site support and saving $5,000 per deployment by redesigning the scanner frame to be modular and one-size-fits-all—cutting install time by 50% and eliminating custom design work • Develop parent model architecture and parametric CAD framework to support scalable hardware design across facilities, standardizing key dimensions and enabling rapid deployment of next-generation products • Lead cross-functional camera selection and deployment, aligning stakeholders across hardware, software, and machine learning to define technical requirements, conduct market research, and down-select vendors—expanding market reach by 60% via improved operational temperature range and boosting ML performance by 15%, while halving model creation time

Volunteer
Friends of Alemany Farm
San Francisco, California, United States
• Volunteer weekly on the largest community-based urban farm in San Francisco • Plant seasonal crops, weed soil beds, compost and mix fertilizer, plant and remove trees, tend to greenhouse plants, and harvest fresh vegetables

Mechanical Design Engineer
San Francisco Bay Area
• Designed the next generation package, Zipline’s delivery mechanism and highest volume produced hardware component, to double the payload mass and volume. This new package enables the delivery of thousands of products, is twice as safe to bystanders, saves $0.34/ delivery, and improves delivery accuracy, operational performance, and sustainability • Led a team to redefine how to quantify and model human safety, co-designed a computer model to link mechanical properties of materials and designs to industry standard injury criterion and probability-based injury outcomes • Built a modular 19.5ft tall drop tower with a load cell at the bottom to acquire data to validate prototypes and safety model • Created 3D models and 2D drawings of designs, and worked with 4 production vendors to produce high volumes of units • Developed requirements, conducted a DFMEA, and created and executed test plans in a fast-paced environment with cross functional teammates on the systems engineering, hardware reliability, and test teams

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
• Designed, iterated, and prototyped solutions for precision medical devices and high volume consumer products • Conducted testing for thermal heat dissipation, multi-material adhesion, sealing, force optimization, and tolerance stacks, including designing, executing, and documenting complex experiements • Presented concepts and updates weekly to multiple clients • Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment to ideate, construct, and validate concepts • Listed as an inventor on a client's patent application

Research & Development Leadership Development Program Engineering Intern, DePuy Synthes, Trauma
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
• Designed concepts for a low resource intramedullary nailing system with functional design requirements based on understanding of technical and clinical challenges surrounding trauma surgeries in low and middle income countries • Created 3D computer models of new femur nail and its respective insertion instrumentation using Creo • Prototyped a mobile application for hospitals to better organize and utilize orthopedic trauma implants and instruments • Tested design effectiveness by conducting finite element analysis, prototyping, and testing models in a sawbones lab

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Greater Philadelphia Area
• Analyzed hydraulic components with Hydraulics and Actuation Team to create compatible system designs of future vertical lift defense rotorcraft, Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) • Modeled hydraulic components using Catia V5 and created schematics for flight control and utility systems • Managed Environmental Control System (ECS) equipment for 777-X by tracking requirement deviations in DOORS, supporting supplier calls, and improving system level organization for Air Supply (ASCS) and Ice Protection (ACIPS)
