Leon Greiner
Co-Founder @ Maxwell Robotics
About
I am a Co-Founder of Maxwell Robotics and work as a Computer Vision Engineer at Seal Robotics, where I focus on building intelligent robotic systems for real-world applications. My background combines computer vision, deep learning, robotics, and hands-on engineering across both research and industry. Previously, I gained computer vision research experience at DLR, alongside broader engineering experience in mechanical and software systems. I hold an M.Sc. in Robotics, Cognition, Intelligence from TUM, completed international studies at UC Berkeley, and earned my B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from TUM.

Experience

Junior Robotics Engineer | Humanoid Team
Munich, Bavaria, Germany
During my first semester at the student initiative Robotum, I joined to work on the flagship project, the Humanoid Team, where we aim to build the fastest bipedal robot in the world. My work primarily involved conducting simulations in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and contributing to the development of our reinforcement learning control pipeline, including implementing a Central Pattern Generator (CPG) in JAX to generate rhythmic control signals.

Computer Vision Research Intern
Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany
At the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), in the Department of Perception and Cognition, I worked as a working student, where I developed a model-based segmentation pipeline by integrating SAM with a correspondence model.

Engineer Intern
Munich, Bavaria, Germany
At Silver Atena, I collaborated with a dynamic cross-functional team to design and implement a dispenser robot, playing a key role in optimizing a production line. This project directly reduced manufacturing time and slashed production costs. In addition, I was hands-on in the lab, conducting rigorous tests and inspections to ensure quality control, which boosted product efficiency and reliability. My experience also extended to cost analysis, where I helped identify and mitigate unexplained price hikes for key components, saving significant costs for the team.

CAD Engineer Intern
Ettlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland
I designed and CAD modeled pneumatic actuators and limit switch boxes, solving complex design challenges while optimizing functionality. Created detailed technical drawings in SolidWorks for customer orders and product manuals, enhancing client satisfaction and ensuring precise product delivery. Additionally, I developed engaging instructional videos and animations for training courses and the company website, simplifying complex tasks like driveshaft disassembly and improving the training experience for both clients and internal teams.

Manufacture Intern
Ettlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland
Hands-on experience in manufacturing pneumatic actuators, where I played a key role in the production process. I also developed precise technical drawings in SolidWorks, ensuring smooth communication between the manufacturing team and customers. This internship gave me direct involvement in the creation and assembly of products, fostering a deep understanding of both design and production workflows.

Manufacture Intern
Malsch, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland
Gained hands-on experience in the manufacturing of hydraulic lifts, working across various stages of the production process. This included metal work, welding, and assembly, as well as machining processes like CNC turning. My role involved working closely with skilled technicians to ensure precision in manufacturing and assembly, contributing to the overall quality and reliability of the final products.
Education

Coursework: Robotic Locomotion, Embedded Systems, Mathematical Programming. Semester Project: Designed and built a fully autonomous wheeled quadruped, with responsibility for perception, path planning and locomotion. Mid-Semester Project: Designed and developed an autonomous real-world Connect Four-playing machine capable of competing against a human in real time.

Mechanical Engineering
Bachelor Thesis: Landing Gear Design for Integration of Fuel Cells into a UAV | Passed with distinction - Focused on the design and simulation of landing gear for an eVTOL UAV, and integrating a battery- hydrogen hybrid system.
