* To work on the Neurosurgical ward * To report to the ward housekeeper and carry out different tasks, depending on what was required. * To spend time with patients, bringing hot and cold drinks around the ward, sitting with post operative patients and talking with them or playing games. * To help improve patient stay - happy patients have faster recovery times and fewer complications. * Procedures observed included discectomy, tumor resection and the removal of a large Arteriovenous Malformation.

Gained exposure in several departments in Pathology, including Microbiology, Haematology, Cytology, Histology and Biochemistry. I learned about many aspects of the day to day routines of the Pathology labs and was fortunate enough to assist in several tasks such as MRSA plating, Cell Culturing, Fixed Tissue Processing and preparation of Diagnostic Blood Films. This was an exciting experience and evidentially propelled my interest in science.
