About
🎓 Doctor of Neuroscience 🧪 Research Director at CNRS 🔬 Cytoskeleton and phenotypic screening specialist 📍 Grenoble, France 🌍 International collaborations 🚀 Innovation and promotion I have been a Researcher at the CNRS since 1990, leading a team at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences (IAB) in Grenoble, where I have also served as Deputy Director. As a cytoskeleton specialist, I am interested in the spatiotemporal regulation of actin and microtubule networks, as well as their pharmacological targeting. As a pioneer in France in the field of high-throughput phenotypic screening, I founded and directed a technology platform dedicated to the automated testing of chemical libraries on living cells for 10 years. Working at the intersection of chemistry and biology, I design pharmacological screening strategies to identify new therapeutic targets. I am an extraordinary professor at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and collaborate with teams in Europe, the United States, and Canada. I am a member of several scientific committees, including the Steering Committee of the Ruban Rose association, and have published over 100 scientific articles, as well as supervising many young researchers. As an innovation ambassador at the CNRS and a valorisation correspondent for the CNRS Biology Institute, I actively bring together fundamental research, biotechnology, and therapeutic innovation. I am the co-founder and scientific advisor to two CNRS start-ups: Cellipse: innovative cancer targeting SAXOL – neuroprotection against the side effects of chemotherapy I am the holder of several patents and a winner of innovation support programmes, and I am committed to ensuring that science serves health in a practical way.

Key cell functions, such as maintenance of cell shape, cell division, transport and motility depend on the cytoskeleton and in particular on the microtubule and actin networks. In response to environmental cues, cells tightly control the organization of these networks and perturbation leads to diverse diseases as for instance cancer, hematologic or neurologic diseases. We use normal and cancerous cell lines as well as platelets in different in vitro systems such as 3D cell cultures, combined with chemical biology approaches, cutting edge live video microscopy techniques and biophysical models. Complementary in vivo mouse and ex vivo human samples are also used to address the following objectives: 1. Identification of key upstream regulators of microtubule and actin dynamics 2. Analysis of their functions in normal and pathological conditions 3. Discovery of pharmacological agents that target these proteins 4. Test of the potential “therapeutic efficacy” of these cytoskeleton-targeting agents, in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo, in the different available systems. (https://iab.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/research/department-microenvironment-cell-plasticity-and-signalling/team-lafanechere-regulation-and-pharmacology-cytoskeleton) Thanks also to strong international collaborations and partnerships with clinicians and the biotechnology company Cellipse SAS (http://cellipse.com/), our team establishes a continuum from basic research, to human applications and technology transfer.

Director of Research
Team Polarity, Development and Cancer
