Lead health, safety and biosafety strategy across GMP manufacturing and R&D, influencing safety culture and accountability through policy development, training, and stakeholder engagement. Developed a company-wide health and safety legal register, risk register, and risk management system tailored to the built environment, biosafety and chemical safety needs. Designed and delivered biosafety and emergency response training, tabletop exercises, and a competency framework. Spearheaded whole UK site initiatives, across multiple locations and departments, including a health surveillance strategy and industrial hygiene monitoring programme, mapping hazardous area classifications (zoning) and first aid needs assessment. Championed measurable improvement through auditing, legal compliance tracking, and a new departmental self-audit toolkit.

Secondment to develop my skills in incident investigation. I joined the process compliance team on a part time basis to lead on deviation investigations. Took a deep dive into human factors and systems thinking.

You cannot fully understand safety, if you don't understand the details of the process. I joined our MSAT team on a part time basis to learn about our manufacturing processes. Contributed to projects as part of the following - USP SME team - Material Science technical team - Plasmid Manufacture technical team

Provided strategic health, safety and biosafety guidance to senior leaders and C-suite, advising on licensing, regulatory notifications, and risk management for key projects including: - The Oxford/AZ COVID-19 vaccine introduction - 1000L production scale-up - Introduction of an aseptic fill-finish suite - SAPO agent introduction and CL3 suite facility design Delivered measurable impact through sustainability-focused HSE projects: - Reduced chemical use by 60% (Virkon) across all labs, and energy usage in CL3 by 600kWh/week through waste process optimisation - Introduced new disinfection protocols and alternative waste routes, saving costs and reducing risk Drove culture change through manager training, improved risk assessment, incident reporting and auditing tools, and health and wellbeing advocacy.

Managed radiation safety across the institute, including policy development, training, waste coordination, equipment calibration and environmental monitoring. Hosted a successful HSE inspection on animal research and laboratory allergens. Introduced incident reporting software, advised on ergonomic and chemical exposure risks, and implemented accessibility and emergency plans.

Supported a growing biotech firm through rapid scaling (from 200 to 400 staff), delivering tools that enabled shifting safety ownership from H&S team to workforce. Delivered policies, inductions, inspections and audits, and risk assessments across labs, fire, first aid, and biological and chemical hazards. Acted as interim Head of H&S, supporting CL3 lab design and commissioning and culture change initiatives and providing H&S advice to the C-suite.
