Commercialization and licensing activities of University research based innovations: IP protection, marketing and commercialization research, IP valuation, negotiating and writing licensing and technical assistance agreements, confidentiality and material transfer agreements, entrepreneurial and small business support, contractual and industry research agreements, etc. Making connections with VC's & Angel investors and funds for university generated start-ups, developing pitches for funding proposals. Strategic Planning, new business development, entrepreneurial assistance, conducting seminars, course lectures, and other educational events for faculty, staff, students. Management of operations, budgets, and HR for department.

Policy analysis & review (Export Control, COI, BayhDole, etc.),providing advice and guidance on policy-related issues and risk assessments for research activities and commercialization of university innovations, while continuing to support the licensing & commercialization efforts of UNCG.

Transferring the commercializable results of academic research into the business environment through licensing and technical assistance agreements, sponsored research, and small business support. Conducted innovation assessments on intellectual property protection and marketability, initiated patent application processes, conducted licensing negotiations, supported formation of start-ups with strategic and business planning. Developed strategic plan for office outlining goals and objectives for subsequent 5 years.

Established infrastructure of a new Technology Transfer Office for small research institution, initiated variety of standard operations procedures for new office, developed and maintained office website, supervised & managed operations and Intellectual Property budgets, ensured federal compliance, researched best practices & developed new Invention and Patent Policy for the university, created new disclosure form, received and researched prior art for invention disclosures, participated in licensing negotiations.

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, School of Engineering. Technical research grant support & budget management, Assistant to Editor for Academic Journal. Professional engineering textbook drafting using LaTeX editing/programming language. Research & teaching administration, early website development with html coding.

Managed wireless communications for 400 person campus, supported implementation of new internal telecommunications system, PBX switch programming and equipment support, led database project for data & telecommunication jack identification throughout campus. Provided backup support to IT department, learned QA coding for software analysis. Conducted VoIP analysis, wrote white paper for telecommunications journal. Database management & administration for two separate systems, departmental budget analysis & management, IT support for department, website analysis, design & updates. Project management & planning for major building addition to campus, coordinating creative scheduling and resources to meet hard deadlines.

Ensuring research activities at UNCG are in compliance with all federal and state regulations. Oversees campus wide compliance for Conflicts of Interests (COI) as well as Export Control regulations. Human Subjects (IRB), Animal Subjects (IACUC), Conflicts of Interest, Biologicals on campus (IBC), Export Control, Responsible conduct of research (RCR) training, University Research Integrity Officer, Research policy analysis, review & management

University Empowered Official under the federal Export Control regulations, developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures throughout the University in all export and deemed export related matters. Building, implementing and maintaining a coordinated COI program and review process based upon the University’s Conflict of Interest and Commitment Policy as well as state and federal laws and regulations, academic best practices, and federal compliance program standards.
