Lucy Richards

I was working part-time as a receptionist at the Hotel Sheraton in Blackpool. Within this role, I helped look after guests by ensuring they have everything they need. I also helped to sell rooms to guests on the phone and in person, finding them the best rooms for their needs.

I worked as a waitress and a bar tender at the ‘Bull and Dog’. I worked here part time alongside my studies at Edgehill University. Within this job, I communicate with customers and work efficiently with the other staff

I worked at ‘Blackpool Pleasure Beach’ as a seasonal sales assistant. This involved selling ride photography to customers exiting rides as well as working within the many shops they have located on the park. Selling ride photography involved communicating with potential customers as they were exiting the rides to persuade them to buy their ride photographs. This also involved upselling to customers, trying to convince them to pay for a package to receive all their pictures instead of purchasing just one. Selling in shops involved putting stock out on shelves, cleaning the shop, and selling to customers. I would help customers find items in the shop as well as show them other items they potentially could be interested in to help increase sales.

Within my course on Marketing Communications and Branding, I developed advanced knowledge in brand positioning, consumer behaviour, digital strategy, and marketing communications. Within my course, there was a strong focus on brand perception and reputation management. For my dissertation, I researched the impact of cancel culture on brand reputation. This grew my understanding on customers feelings towards brands and what can tarnish the relationship between a brand and their customers. This also presented what factors influence a customers decision to purchase from a brand.

I graduated from Edgehill University in 2023 with first-class honours. While studying at Edgehill University, I decided that I wanted to work in marketing. Therefore, I decided to continue with my studies at Edgehill University doing a Masters in Marketing Communications and PR.
