The New Jersey Association of Naturopathic Physicians is a nonprofit organization devoted to educating people and legislators on what naturopathic physicians do and lobby for licensure of naturopathic medicine in the State of New Jersey. This position involves management and oversight of finances, budgeting, reporting and communicating financial reports to the members of the board, file any necessary documentation to maintain compliance (i.e. annual report, taxes, etc).

To educate people and legislators on what naturopathic physicians do and lobby for licensure of naturopathic medicine in the State of New Jersey. This position also entails collaboration with the other board members of the NJANP and establish goals for advancing and regulating naturopathic physicians in the New Jersey. My focus will be on establishing a legislative strategy on a quarterly basis to work towards the goal of having a bill introduced into NJ legislation, and eventually achieve licensure and regulation of naturopathic physicians.

Residency Supervisor for an elective residency site for D.O. (Osteopathic doctor) residents through Rowan-Virtua Family Medicine. This is a 1-month rotation for experience in functional and integrative medicine. It is not required but rather an elective that D.O.’s can use for credits towards their medical license. It will focus on some basics in the functional medicine field like less ordered traditional tests, non-traditional lab testing, repurposing of pharmaceuticals, drug-herb interactions, evidence-based diets and nutritional supplements, evidence based lifestyle therapies like sauna and exercise, and many others.

Residency Director/Supervisor for an affiliate residency site through my Alma Mater, NUNM. I will be designing and supervising post-graduate naturopathic doctors (license eligible N.D. & N.M.D.). The training will include primarily business management and clinical practice development. I will also be developing the curriculum for the program at this site.

Correct physical and psychological imbalances through the use of hydrotherapy, nutritional supplementation, bodywork, herbal medicine, pain education, homeopathy, and other therapeutic modalities before resorting to pharmaceuticals or surgical procedures.

Evaluate muscular imbalances and formulate physical activity plans to address these imbalances.

Progressive's integrative medical model focuses on functional medicine testing. As a resident physician, I will become proficient with standard laboratory testing as well as specialty testing including stool cultures, food sensitivities, oxidative biomarkers, and neurotransmitter testing to name a few. I will spend 35 hours a week seeing patients. In addition to patient care, I will be actively supervised primarily by Dr. Burdette with the opportunity to work a host of MDs, DOs, chiropractors, acupuncturists, etc. I will be involved in research projects that are germane to my interest and build my academic pursuit. Other areas of training include the opportunity to work in the IV room, Pain management center (contrast therapies, PEMF, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, prolozone therapeutic injections, chiropractic care, acupuncture), and cancer center (including high dose nutritional IVs, overseen by the oncologist on staff), and helping patients incorporate diet and physical activity into their wellness curriculum.
