Kwang-Hwan Choi

Austin obtained a Ph.D. from Seoul National University (SNU), majoring in animal reproductive and stem cell biology. His primary focus was on unveiling the regulation of the pluripotency network and attempting to capture genuine pluripotent cells, known as embryonic stem cells (ESCs), in vitro in pig species. During his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Research Institute of Agriculture and Life Sciences (RIALS) of SNU, Austin conducted several research grants funded by the Korean government. He served as a principal investigator for projects related to agribiotechnological applications of pig ESCs and adult stem cells. One of his research projects involved the production of cultivated meat using pig stem cells. Drawing from his prior experience in cultivated meat research, Austin joined the research team of Space F Corp., a start-up company, as the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). He is actively engaged in developing techniques for the commercialization and industrialization of cultivated meats. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role in various societies and organizations, focusing on improving safety regulations for cultured cell-based foods and establishing a social infrastructure to facilitate the cellular agricultural industry. Cellular agriculture represents an emerging research field in agribiotechnology with the goal of producing agricultural products using stem cells. We stand before the door of the cellular agricultural era, and this paradigm shift towards sustainable agricultural product production using stem cells could be termed the 'Cell Revolution.' The next wave of stem cell research aligns with the development of the cellular agricultural industry, promising to open a 'Brave' new world.
