We set out to solve the core constraint limiting electric motorcycles: usable driving range. Building on pioneering battery pack architecture first explored by Alta Motors, we developed an air-cooled, bottom-cooled cylindrical battery pack that enabled the use of high-energy-density 21700 cells rather than conventional high-power cells. By re-engineering cell interconnects to free the base of each cell for direct thermal coupling, we significantly improved heat rejection along the dominant thermal path of cylindrical cells. This allowed higher energy density at safe operating temperatures, resulting in a ~20–30% increase in real-world range from a 12.5 kWh pack assembled in-house. We designed, built, and tested four successive motorcycle prototypes with increasing pack capacities, validated performance through extensive road testing, and secured 125 pre-orders. Ultimately, the capital intensity of scaling manufacturing proved prohibitive, and the project was shut down prior to production.
