Worked on a confidential social sector project focussing on South Asia. The primary client for the project is UN Women and other stakeholders include International Organization for Migration (IOM) and International Labour Organization (ILO). Undertook two strategy consulting assignments with multilateral aid agencies. The objective of one of the projects was to build evidence base for guiding strategic directions for policy on social protection, particularly for urban poor and migrants, to support the establishment of a comprehensive social protection system in India. The purpose of second assignment was to understand the issues, problems, and vulnerability of the migrant population in India to formulate assistance/cooperation strategies to enhance their socio-economic well-being and social protection.

Kunal worked closely with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India on the design and roll-out of the PMMVY, a flagship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme of the Government. He has helped develop the DBT enablement software and led the Programme management team. His efforts have enabled the Government to disburse more than ₹ 10000+ Crores to 20 million+ pregnant women and lactating mothers. He has been the lead consultant for communication and change management since launch of this scheme. This engagement was a large-scale public-sector project which involved policy-level consultancy support followed by project management and development of an IT solution for the operational and technology-led transformation of legacy maternity benefit programmes in India. In this project, he gained experience of collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that strategic goals and business requirements were understood and successfully implemented while ensuring adherence to PRINCE-2 and SDLC governance, standards and expectations. He also gained experience of waterfall methodology and developed a keen interest in Agile methodology of software development. As part of the Programme Management and IT advisory for the project, data analysis for 50 million+ applications from all over India is required to be done on a daily basis.

He published a thought paper – “The impact of impact investment” and also did an Impact Investment Policy study for 18 countries. This study aimed to understand the current stage of a country in the Impact investment space and come up with suggestive policy interventions.

Kunal worked as one of the founding members of PMU for the Startup India, a flagship programme of the Government of India, which aims to create a conducive regulatory environment enabling entrepreneurs in all aspects of their entrepreneurial journey. Startup India focusses on three major pillars -simplification and handholding, funding and incentives, and industry-academia partnerships. He helped the Government to create a build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and Startups in the country. As on December 2020- 41,317 Startups were recognized by the Government and investment worth ₹ 4,509 Crore made through the Fund of Funds established under the programme.

Kunal worked as an intern in the "Ease of Doing Business (EoDB)" flagship initiative of the Government of India at the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion with KPMG. 2015 was the first year when the Government had planned to launch the EoDB exercise and the KPMG team helped in conceptualising and driving the initiative. Kunal was a key member of the study team assessing the States/ UTs in India which has now resulted in improving India’s ranking under the World Bank's EODB report from 142 in 2015 to 63 in 2020.
