Kristina Shea

My research focuses on leader and leadership development and well-being. I focus on mixed-methods, and complex longitudinal studies in cross-cultural phenomenon in Europe and the US to unlock black boxes, and understand what contributes to leader well-being and thriving in the workplace.

Executive level leader overseeing $360 million budget, 7 Divisions, and 250 employees. Responsibilities include Fiscal services, Accounting, Medical, Offender Management, Purchasing and Contracts, Legal, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Reporting. Responsible for presentations to the law makers, grant operations, research and development of leader development programs, and creative and innovative change processes. Implemented organization change models and theories, and experienced organizational resistance. • Strategic vision and presenting to law makers related to all aspects of budget, and Correctional Operations. • Speak and present at conferences related to Positive Corrections and Positive Organizational Change in Corrections. • Implement new program, improvements, and staff development processes for succession planning. • Complex creative problem solving with automation processes for electronic systems, and new technology innovations.

Founded non-profit organization with the mission to bring evidence-based leader and leadership development to all people. IID focuses on positive psychology modalities, coaching, and building leader competencies which include self-awareness, purposefulness, emotional intelligence, and other skill and ability based models. We believe in removing the barriers and positively disrupting leader development through access and also creative and innovative ways to grow micro-skills in everyday learning environments. Self-development is a primary value of IID. We strive to measure, and evaluate our programs and individually design programs to take leaders (all people) through long term leader development using empirical research as our guiding star.

Maintained responsibility for complete financial oversight, initiated community-led culture and system change, and developed effective business processes, policies, and guidelines for global grassroots movement of survivors, artists, and activists to stop violence. Oversaw all HR practices, rewards, and incentives, including job descriptions, interviewing, hiring, reviews, bonus structures, benefits administration, 401(k)s, separation agreements, and severance negotiations for 15-member team. Served as conflict and risk-management officer, donor development director, and communications gatekeeper. Directed international filming contract oversight and converted paper to electronic files. Prepared audits, budgets, and monthly financial reviews as well as midyear budget and annual report analysis for board of directors and handled all donor funds and distribution. Defined new vision and led enterprise reorganization while nurturing employee relationships, implementing strategic staffing, and encouraging utilization of strengths in meaningful way. Navigated activism from legal perspective, coordinating logistics and creative problem-solving. Performed reporting for 30 grants with full donor transparency. Initiated organization efficiencies worldwide, including more effective software and technology systems. Fostered high-profile relationships and deepened connections with frequent communication. Managed $10M budget.

Administered complex and heavy-hitting program, fiscal, and budget analysis and ensured legal compliance for nonpartisan state division comprising Nevada Department of Corrections, State Public Works Division, and Nevada State Capital Improvement Program. Served as liaison between executive and legislative branches of government. Reviewed all work programs, contracts, and operations; staffed industrial program and legislative money committees; and converted to electronic files. Communicated with agency directors to steer organizations forward efficiently and transparently. Researched policy and bill reform as well as fiscal impact; drafted and tracked major finance bills. Participated in interim studies for assigned agencies and authored and delivered presentations during closing of legislative sessions to resolve questions and provide fiscal advice to assist lawmakers in sound decision-making. Tackled $20M department deficit by monitoring agencies for taxpayer money and uncovering substantial cost overruns; saved $10M by bonding state requirements with regard to funding of capital construction. Managed $1B budget.

Modernized day-to-day program efficiency, developed stakeholder relationships, and streamlined all financial and accounting processes with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for nonprofit global community developed to empower Amazon rainforest indigenous peoples to preserve their lands and culture and to inspire global environmental sustainability. Performed grant and investment reporting. Led utilization of automated clearing house (ACH) transfer processes from paper to electronic organization. Aligned banking principles with values, initiating alliances with banks certified in “green banking practices.” Prepared and managed $7M budget.

Ideated organizational development for “think tank” nonprofit providing information and analysis on energy, ecology, economy, and equity needs. Managed all financial aspects, including preparation of statements and balance sheets, profit and loss (P&L), trial balance, budget variance, and monthly and annual working cash flow. Provided HR oversight, benefits administration, and payroll for 8–10 employees spanning various countries. Redefined strategic vision and rebranded organization with name change that remains in existence today. Implemented electronic accounting department and supervised yearly audit with 990 tax preparation. Managed $1M budget.
