KOH JIE XIAN
Automated Test Equiment Engineer @ Abbott
About
As a Year 4 Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Malaya, I am passionate about applying engineering principles to real-world challenges. My academic journey has been enriched by various international experiences, including a short-term research program at Ehime University, Japan, where I engaged in cutting-edge research in combustion and alternative fuel systems, as well as an exchange program at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, which broadened my global outlook and cross-cultural communication skills. My technical expertise spans areas such as combustion analysis, alternative fuels, and 3D printing for hybrid rocket systems, developed through hands-on lab work and research. I have gained practical experience in experimental setup, data analysis, and using high-speed digital cameras for capturing combustion processes. Additionally, I have developed skills in CAD design, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.I am continuously seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge in mechanical systems and collaborate with professionals in the engineering field. Whether it's contributing to research teams or engaging in interdisciplinary projects, I am dedicated to learning and growing as a future engineer.

Automated Test Equiment Engineer
Malaysia
Responsible for assisting in the validation and qualification of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) used in Class III medical device manufacturing to ensure equipment reliability, accuracy, and readiness for production deployment. Assisted in executing Engineering Test Plans (ETP) and preparing Engineering Test Reports (ETR) for cloned ATE stations to confirm correlation with reference units. Supported Installation Qualification Plan (IQP) and Installation Qualification Report (IQR) documentation to verify hardware, software, and calibration compliance. Performed root cause analysis and proposed corrective actions for issues identified during ATE station validation. Participated in training for building a dummy pacemaker, gaining hands-on understanding of device assembly flow related to functional testing. Applied Good Documentation Practice (GDP) in compiling validation evidence and maintaining traceability in regulated documentation systems.

Mobility Research Assistant
Matsuyama
Research on Continuous Wave Combustion (CW) for Hydrogen-Hydrocarbon Mixtures Ehime University, Japan - Short-Term Mobility Research Program Participated in an experimental study focusing on the combustion behavior of hydrogen-hydrocarbon fuel mixtures. Assisted in setting up a high-speed digital camera to capture ignition processes inside a combustion chamber, analyzing continuous wave combustion under different air and fuel mixtures. Contributed to data analysis by manually adjusting combustion parameters, improving accuracy in measuring flame speed and combustion rates. Micro/Meso Scale Flames and Ignition Research Ehime University, Japan - Short-Term Mobility Research Program Engaged in research exploring the ignition of hydrogen and propane fuel mixtures at micro and meso scales, aiming to enhance micro power generation systems. The experiment involved testing various capacitances to determine the minimum ignition energy required for consistent combustion. Assisted in assembling and operating advanced lab equipment and analyzed ignition probabilities, contributing to the development of more efficient micro-scale combustors. Hybrid Rocket System Development (PHR) Ehime University, Japan - Short-Term Mobility Program Contributed to the design and testing of small hybrid rocket systems, with a focus on 3D-printed nozzles for educational applications. Supported the setup and demonstration of the rocket system for open campus events, interacting with primary and secondary students. Worked alongside research teams to analyze nozzle throat design and optimize combustion performance using innovative 3D printing techniques.

Exchange Student
Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand
Participated in a cultural and academic exchange program at the University of Waikato. Gained exposure to New Zealand's educational system and engaged in diverse learning experiences. Focused on enhancing cross-cultural communication and adapting to a new academic environment. The program provided opportunities for personal growth, networking, and expanding global perspectives.
