I started KL Falconry at the beginning of 2013, after working with birds of prey for 10 years. I used to work at the Royal Armouries in Leeds along side the resident falconer, I started as a volunteer at the age of 10 and progressed to working there every weekend between school. I got my first bird at the age of 14, Tilly the Barn Owl. After school I studied animal management at Askham Byran college for 3 years. In July 2012 I travelled to South Africa to work on a rehabilitation centre, here I worked with a large range of injured wild raptors along with some residents. Here I picked up many skills for my goal of opening a raptor rehabilitation centre. As well as learning from the staff at the rehab centre, I also helped train some of the staff and birds. I was asked to train 5 different birds to fly to the gloved handler, and also train the handler how to fly the birds. These birds were all wild and had been brought into the centre through injury which proved a challenge but I succeeded in this task.
