He has worked in drug discovery and development in biopharma for over 21 years. He is an accomplished scientist with a deep knowledge of the development of antibodies and other biologics as therapeutics to treat viral infectious diseases and cancer. His past work in the antibody development of an anti-EGFR therapeutic antibody led to Phase 1 trials in cancer, while his work on anti-HBV antibody led to Phase 2 trials in liver transplantation and Phase 1 trials in chronic hepatitis B. Additionally, he has prior experience in development of a novel class of ADCs that is now in clinical development. He holds 15 patents and has published 9 peer-reviewed journal articles. Prior to joining CrossPoint Therapeutics, Kihwan served as Research Director of the Daejeon Research Center at Orum Therapeutics. He served as team leader in the Antibody Engineering Team, for CJ HealthCare, where he led the antibody discovery research for a novel immuno-oncology therapy. Prior to that, he worked as an antibody engineer for GC Pharma and the Mogam Institute for Biomedical Research, where he earned a ten-year service appreciation award. In addition, he previously worked in gene therapy at Samyang Genex Corporation. He earned a master’s degree in molecular virology and biochemistry from Yonsei University. He studied phage display of proteins and peptides at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory before completing his Ph.D. in molecular virology and biochemistry from Yonsei University.
