PATS Indoor Drone Solutions enables greenhouse farmers to significantly reduce and eliminate flying insect pest populations, while circumventing the common limits that other (bio)chemical alternatives have. The MAVLab is a leading research lab for drones, located in the Delft University of Delft. I've been involved in many projects. Vision research and embedded systems engineering on board drones. Involved in getting the Netherlands at the foreground in the state of the art of drones, such as the first legal beyond visual line of sight flight. Furthermore, I have developed the vision system in the Delftacopter. Currently working together with the Dutch navy to get some very cool new type of drones happening on board their ships!

Software Engineer
In a small but dedicated software team I have developed CytoClus (interactive data analysis software) and CytoUSB (instrument control software). This software is delivered with our in-situ flow cytometer. Additionally, application engineering, user training and instrument deployment, R&D and some management exercises have been a big part of my job. Research topic included clustering, data visualization, Big Data and real time constrained software.Through the years I have obtained a great deal of knowledge on the subject of aquatic sciences, in particular marine algae biology.

As part of an international team, consisting out of ESA ESTEC, the TUDelft MAVLab and the MIT SSL group, I was sent out to the MIT Space Systems Laboratory to prepare an International Space Station experiment: Persistent Self Supervised Learning on the SPHERES robots in the ISS.

Embedded systems are hardware/software systems built into devices that are not necessarily recognized as computerized devices, but these systems do control all the functionality. Some specific examples of embedded systems include: controllers for systems within a car; the automatic pilot of an aircraft; the chip set and software for smartphones, tablets and smart TVs; wireless sensor networks for ambient intelligence, a pacemaker; and control systems embedded in robots. The growth rate in the embedded systems industry is more than 10% per annum and, according to forecasts, there will be more than 40 billion devices worldwide by 2020. Innovations made possible by embedded systems are making our lives healthier, more interesting, safer and more sustainable. These innovations are at the heart of industrial innovation and competitiveness, creating and sustaining jobs and economic well-being. Seemed like a good idea to study at the time, and I have not been disappointed so far.
