Experienced educator and school leader in New Jersey and New York. Experience serving as the Chief School Administrator of a Charter School in Newark, New Jersey, School Principal in Brooklyn, New York, STEM Instructional Coach, and teacher of Gifted & Talented, Math, Science, and Social Studies in New Jersey. Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment As a Doctoral Candidate focused on the cyclical nature of curriculum, instruction, & assessment, I have had the opportunity to apply this learning as a principal in grades K-8. Using state testing data, I assessed our school curriculum to determine its alignment with state standards and worked with teachers to make adjustments so students are better able to meet performance expectations. I reviewed and assessed the difference between anticipated performance based on cognitive ability as compared to actual performance. Professional Development I launched a STEM School that required STEM professional development planned and coordinated with Fordham University. I developed a framework for their professional development providers, and later an instructional coach, to support the integration of the Engineering and Science Practices of the Next Generation Science Standards in all content areas. Budget In charge of all aspects of budgeting and spending, even serving as the temporary Bookkeeper for a 3 month period. I selected budget priorities, negotiated contracts with vendors and contractors, set fundraising goals, and independently solicited donations from benefactors (multiple donations over $10,000). I determined areas where savings could be achieved with no disruption in services. I contracted with a new cleaning company achieving savings of $6,000 per month. I secured a grant to replace all lighting with LED lighting while only paying 1/3 of the cost. I followed all rules related to restricted and unrestricted line items when making budget adjustments as the year progressed. I was the point person for grant/loan applications securing a $425,000 forgivable PPP Loan, approximately 400 student technology devices, reimbursement for school security, and a new $13,000 leveled school library. Special Education I reviewed IEP and 504 plans to ensure students received all services, accommodations, and modifications they were entitled to. As part of this process, I worked with the NYC Committee on Special Education to make referrals and secure independent providers for students. I also supported teachers to identify data required for the evaluation process.
