Being a TEDx organizer at The Avery Coonley School means doing lots of important stuff to make a really cool event happen. It's not just about planning and making sure things run on time. The organizer's job is to make sure the event allows people to showcase smart ideas, be curious, and listen to different points of view. They work with students, teachers, staff, and the community to make sure the talks are interesting and that everyone feels excited and inspired. The TEDx event isn't just about talks; it's about sharing ideas and getting people talking about important things while learning and working together.

The Glowforge Education Ambassador program is designed to recognize and celebrate teachers who are creating amazing things. These educators use Glowforge to transform teaching and learning in their classrooms. Each year, a group of educators will be selected after completing our application process. Throughout the subsequent year, Glowforge Ambassadors will participate in webinars, case studies, and conferences with fellow Ambassadors in order to share ideas and spread awareness about how Glowforge can help transform teaching and learning.

Composed of 28 incredible educators from across the country, this group will share their expertise with Pitsco Education’s various departments and teams to support the mission of leading education that positively affects learners, fueling development of innovative ideas for classrooms everywhere. The 2022-23 TAG members will be involved in a variety of projects, including feedback on new and existing hands-on products, activities, blog posts, and marketing content. This year, some of the focus will be on new Pitsco endeavors such as TETRIX® Virtual Robotics and the new STEAM Builder Bin. But, rest assured, the TAG influence will be touching every aspect of Pitsco’s mission, from product conception to feedback to marketing ideas and everything in between.

Support the daily functioning of the department. Serve as a role model and coach to faculty to encourage their self-evaluation, professional development, and scholarship. Coach, mentor, and evaluate the performance of faculty within the department with the designated administrator. Synthesize feedback and data regarding classroom observations and assessments to inform departmental changes to goals, practices, and processes. Interpret and report records relating to student achievement as well as course grades within the department. Assist in the search, recruitment, and evaluation of candidates for faculty openings. Implement a focus on technology use and adoption within the department.

Teach courses in Physics, Algebra, Science, Engineering, and Robotics to high school students with diverse learning profiles. Develop differentiated, inquiry-based lesson plans that align with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and NGSS standards. Create a supportive and structured classroom environment that fosters curiosity, confidence, and independence. Integrate assistive technologies and hands-on learning tools to accommodate various learning needs. Design and establish Wolcott’s inaugural Engineering and Robotics program, including curriculum, competitions (e.g., FIRST Robotics), and partnerships. Source and set up lab equipment, maker tools, and robotics kits suitable for neurodiverse learners. Collaborate with administration and colleagues to develop long-term strategic goals for STEM and innovation programming. Work closely with learning specialists and advisors to provide individualized support plans for students with learning differences (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia, executive function challenges). Provide scaffolding, consistent feedback, and coaching to help students develop self-advocacy and problem-solving skills. Create assessment strategies that value process, creativity, and growth as much as final outcomes. Serve as a founding faculty member and thought partner in shaping school culture, interdisciplinary learning, and student-centered practices. Mentor newer STEM faculty and share best practices for working with students with learning differences. Participate in ongoing professional development around neurodiversity, equity in STEM, and inclusive pedagogy. Launch and coach extracurricular STEM initiatives such as a robotics team, science fair, maker club, or sustainability project. Engage families in students' learning journeys through showcases, newsletters, and conferences. Represent Wolcott at external competitions, exhibitions, and partnerships with local universities or STEM organizations.

Developed and implemented engaging robotics curricula tailored for students in grades 2–8. Pioneered a unique Indoor Skydiving LEGO Robotics Challenge with iFLY, blending engineering, coding, and aerodynamic design to simulate free-fall and controlled flight environments. Integrated physics and problem-solving principles into hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Delivered daily instruction in LEGO robotics using LEGO Education platforms such as SPIKE Prime and EV3. Differentiated instruction to meet the developmental needs of early elementary through middle school learners. Guided students in the engineering design process: ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration. Support a collaborative, inclusive classroom culture encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Empowered students to troubleshoot, analyze data, and adapt solutions during skydiving simulation builds. Promoted student voice by allowing learners to present their projects and explain design choices. Assessed student progress through observation, performance tasks, and engineering journals. Provided constructive feedback to support iterative learning and growth in both technical and soft skills. Maintained a safe, organized classroom environment with proper use of tools, robotics kits, and experimental materials for the skydiving module. Oversaw proper storage and care of LEGO robotics equipment and supplementary materials (motors, sensors, launch frames, etc.). Worked closely with summer program administrators and fellow instructors to align goals and schedule interdisciplinary activities. Shared best practices with faculty to inspire integration of real-world challenges like indoor skydiving into broader STEM education initiatives.

A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and videos previously recorded at TED conferences are shared with the community. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. Camp: ASPIRE provides options to replace traditional summer enrichment programs like face-to-face summer camps that have been cancelled while giving parents an opportunity to keep their children learning robotics and specialized skills, like problem-solving and engineering, through the summer months. Using UBTECH Education’s UKIT system, accredited STEM educators will provide week-long virtual robotics sessions throughout the summer. The experiential, virtual robotics class options will be open to all levels of learners – beginner to more experienced – and cover topics like biomimicry, sensor technology, prosthetics, and even AI application.
