During the execution of the research project titled “Light Environment Management in Multi-purpose Agroforestry Systems”, I evaluated the development of 40 native Brazilian tree species planted in the understory of eucalyptus plantations, which were managed under different thinning intensities to provide varying canopy cover and, consequently, different levels of shading. The light environment management, enabled by the appropriate and systematic handling of eucalyptus, directly influenced species survival, as well as their morphological and physiological development. The results contribute to the design and planning of new agroforestry arrangements with multiple purposes, such as conservation, restoration, and production.
