Kelly Heaton is a contemporary artist, designer, and engineer with more that two decades of experience in the commercial art world. She has staged numerous solo exhibitions and received multiple grants and commissions. Heaton is widely recognized for her combination of art and science. She uses different media to thoughtfully address concepts of nature, psychology, and spirituality: CAD, electrical engineering, printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion, and perfume. Kelly Heaton is the founder of a small-batch perfumery that is dedicated to true luxury fragrance. Field to Fragrance is a line of nine perfumes developed by Kelly Heaton over the course of several years. Each scent is inspired by an antique formula and celebrates the beauty of old-world perfume made with only the finest aromatic ingredients. The Virginia Perfume Company preserves perfumery as a loving craft of exquisite natural ingredients, a rarity in our world of high-volume fragrance made with predominantly synthetic ingredients. Kelly Heaton also designed the look at feel of her "Field to Fragrance" brand and registered it as a trademark.

Kelly Heaton has strong interpersonal, analytical, and visualization skills that enable her to solve problems and invent new intellectual property. She worked with Roche Diagnostics and Diabetes Care for five years to innovate new products. Her work involved managing teams of designers, researchers, health care professionals, and software engineers. Heaton is a natural leader who works well with high-level executives, but she has the humility and grace to relate with all types of people in an organization. She is also capable to work across specialities, cultures, and different languages. She is author or co-author on multiple patents in medical data visualization and wearable diagnostic devices. Heaton is a fast learner, clear communicator, and capable to work across disciplines and cultures to achieve exceptional results.

Kelly Heaton worked with a diverse team of executives, engineers, designers, and healthcare professionals to innovate methods of glucose monitoring. Her team generated multiple patents for their work. She managed an external team of software engineers to create a prototype for medical data visualization, and regularly presented progress to executives in Basel, CH, Mannheim, DE, and Indianapolis, IN USA. Her efforts to promote radical innovation in Roche Diabetes Care survived three episodes of corporate restructuring and led to one successful product launch (based on IP sold to an industry partner).

Kelly Heaton was awarded a joint-residency between the Duke Department of Computer Science and the Information Systems and Information Science departments. During her one year residency, she premiered Dead Pelt (2002) at Borusan Gallery in Istanbul, Turkey and Live Pelt (2003) at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts in NEw York, NY.

Kelly Heaton was awarded a six-month residency to continue her project Bibiota, including work on Dead Pelt and Live Pelt (later completed at Duke University). She exhibited Reflection Loop at bitforms gallery (2001) during this time.
