MedReleaf is also heavily involved in educational, social, and charitable events in support of the conditions our patients suffer from, including: Rethink Breast Cancer, Veterans Helping Veterans, and the Arthritis Society. As research evolves, the most important communication we have is with our patients. Established in 2013, Friends of Koh Rong exists to help the local communities on the Koh Rong archipelago adapt to the tourism industry that is changing their way of life forever. FoKR seeks to help our beneficiaries to adapt and benefit from these changes through education and sustainable community development. We offer a range of English classes, completely free of charge, across all age levels and abilities. We firmly believe in the power of education, and also offer Computer lessons, Art, Dance, Music and Environmental classes to children, to help engender a love of learning and encourage attendance to class. Additionally, we seek to improve the livelihoods of our beneficiaries, through vocational training. Key achievements include: - Founder and key member in transforming a grassroots educational project into a locally run non-profit operating in 2 villages - Increased class attendance by 70% in FoKRs first year - Created and coordinated a volunteer program - Implemented teacher development program training 4+ local Khmer teachers per year - Organized workshops and outreach programs for 4 villages - Networking with partner NGOs and donors - Coordinated International Fundraising Month, with 8 events across 7 countries, raising 40%+ of annual operational budget Friends of Koh Rong also seeks to improve community infrastructure, creating a stronger and more sustainable community for all.
