-Teach augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems to autistic children and their families utilizing direct instruction and caregiver training

• Train interventionists and graduate students at multiple universities to implement evidence-based language interventions, behavioral strategies, and discrete trial teaching to improve social communication outcomes with minimally verbal autistic children in schools and the community • Provide ongoing case supervision, clinical feedback and program fidelity ratings for project interventionists • Coordinate with district personnel and school staff to execute university research projects in schools

• Utilize standardized assessments and naturalistic observations to determine intervention outcomes for autistic children, ages 3-17, across multiple domains including autism diagnosis and severity, academic and social engagement, language and social communication, play skills, and cognitive abilities • Collaborate with teachers to modify classroom environments to improve learning opportunities for autistic children • Conduct classroom observations in 20 school districts throughout California to evaluate the effect of classroom structure on child communication for minimally verbal autistic children • Train parents to implement caregiver-mediated joint engagement and language interventions for under-served, ethnically diverse and low-income families • Implement programs to optimize social and communication outcomes for autistic children • Develop communication programs using assistive communication devices • Work in partnership with university researchers, graduate students, parents, teachers, and community advocates to develop effective learning environments for autistic children • Gather, code and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to make recommendations to parents and teachers of autistic children
