Dr. Keith M.K. Chong (PhD, MBA)
Chief Executive Officer @ Syndesia Pte Ltd
About
I help MedTech, HealthTech, and Wellness companies enter Southeast Asia and secure real commercial traction. Not just pilots or “market presence”but real revenue! Most foreign companies struggle in SEA not because of product quality, but because of misaligned regulatory strategy, wrong market entry sequence, and ineffective partnerships. These mistakes are expensive and often invisible until years later. I work as an interim Market Entry & Commercialisation Lead, owning the SEA expansion from regulatory and market prioritisation to partnerships, first customers, and early revenue. My background sits at the intersection of: • Market entry strategy for Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, regional expansion) • MedTech & HealthTech regulatory and commercial alignment • Ecosystem building across hospitals, labs, distributors, manufacturers, investors, and government-linked entities • Translating complex technology into commercially viable healthcare solutions I have worked closely with startups, growth-stage companies, investors, and ecosystem partners to shorten time-to-market, avoid costly dead-ends, and structure partnerships that convert into revenue. I am typically engaged when companies: • Are entering SEA for the first time • Have a product but struggle with adoption or commercialisation • Need local leadership without building a full team • Want faster, clearer decisions at C-level I don’t sell reports or generic consulting. I take responsibility for outcomes, speed, and decision quality. 📍 Based in Singapore | Working across Southeast Asia 🤝 Open to interim, advisory, and strategic roles for market entry & commercialisation If your SEA expansion must work the first time, we should talk.

Startups don’t fail because of ideas; they fail because they run out of cash, lose operational focus, or struggle to access the right networks. That’s where I step in. I help healthcare and medtech companies bridge the gap from early-stage funding to real revenue, ensuring they are not only investable but ready to scale and enter new markets. My work combines strategic execution, operational leadership, and ecosystem access to turn innovation into measurable outcomes. How I Help Companies Succeed: 1. Bridging Early-Stage to Market Traction Guide healthcare startups and growth-stage companies in securing funding, structuring operations, and launching successfully in Southeast Asia. 2. Financial & Operational Health Platform Establish cash flow management, operational execution, and strategic planning that ensures startups and expansion projects deliver results; not just reports. 3. Ecosystem & Market Access Connect companies with investors, hospitals, distributors, government partners, and commercial channels, enabling fast, efficient market entry and partnership development. 4. Interim Leadership & Execution Act as Market Entry or Commercialisation Lead, taking ownership of SEA expansion, partnerships, and first revenue, so founders focus on product and growth while avoiding costly mistakes. I work with companies that need results fast, want local expertise, and are ready to pay for outcome-driven execution.

At Creative Medtech Solutions, I was all about turning big ideas into game-changing innovations. Building a Culture of Innovation: Success wasn’t just about strategy; it was about building a team and culture that thrived on continuous innovation and customer-first thinking. By fostering a mindset where new ideas were always encouraged, we set ourselves up for long-term success. 4. Big Vision, Big Sacrifice: In the pursuit of something truly transformative, we understood that big visions come with big sacrifices. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it when you’re building something that can change the game. Whether it’s taking risks or pushing the limits, I’ve always believed in aiming high and giving everything to make it a reality. I’m passionate about challenging the status quo and shaping the future of healthcare technology. Every step I took in this role was about making a lasting impact and driving change on a larger scale.
Education

Biomedical Sciences
Studying overseas for the first time and without any Malaysian community support in NUS. It wasn’t easy, but I was fortunate to be introduced to Sheares Hall by a senior who is a son of my teacher from my school, SMK Seri Keledang. I always appreciate his help! During my 4 years at NUS, I joined the Special Programme in Sciences (SPS), which encouraged interdisciplinary studies—combining chemistry, mathematics, physics, and biology. It was here that I truly fell in love with science, thanks to the thought-provoking research approach and passion of my first professor, Dr. Claire. Apart from SPS, I spent 3 years in Sheares Hall, participating in various activities but most of the times spent helping establish the Malaysian Students League with my friend Thomas Wen Hau and a few friends. We eventually met Kim Wong, who turned it into a recognized society at NUS. On my third year onwards, I focused more on research and less on extracurriculars.

Business Administration and Management, General
It is a joint program between IE Business School and SMU. The Intensive Online MBA was the perfect fit for my lifestyle while working at Merck, requiring me to travel nearly 70% of the time. Each day, I would wake up at 3-4 AM to complete assignments and submit them before heading into work. The unique blend of 1-2 weeks in Madrid and 3 weeks in Singapore, with the rest conducted online, made for a challenging yet rewarding experience. Despite the intensive nature, I managed to graduate after just 13 months. The support from my wife, incredible classmates and engaging professors made all the difference. The program equipped me with valuable knowledge and a broader perspective on the business world, which has been invaluable in my career.

Molecular Virology
This wasn’t a full-time PhD for me, but a challenging part-time program while managing two different projects simultaneously. Project 1: STOP dengue grant. My role was to identify biomarkers—both host and viral—that could help differentiate patients at risk of severe dengue, allowing for timely medical intervention. PhD Project: My own research focused on understanding why the viral capsid protein localized in the nucleus of infected cells during replication. Managing both projects simultaneously taught me how to juggle responsibilities effectively, organize lab, maintain equipment like fluorescent microscopes, and troubleshoot experiments. The challenges were significant, but the rewards were immense. This period marked my learning curve for handling multiple projects, developing essential skills for managing a busy research lab, writing research article, book chapter and research grant as well as gaining a deeper understanding of molecular virology.
