Kayla Waddler

My goal is to become a pediatric surgeon and positively impact the lives of children and their families. I recently graduated from Hampton University with a B.S. in Biology on the Pre-Med track, where I consistently earned Dean’s List honors and received Merit, Room, and Endowed Scholarships for my academic performance. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University, where I’m expanding my understanding of patient-centered care through the lens of storytelling, empathy, and the humanities. I interned at Eastern Virginia Medical School, working in the Urology Department under a pediatric urologist and gaining hands-on experience in General Surgery and Family Medicine through clinical rotations. I was exposed to surgical techniques, patient care protocols, and clinical research. I also interned at the Center for Women’s Aesthetics, where I learned about women’s health and wellness, both key components in my future approach to pediatric care. These experiences sharpened my research and lab skills while deepening my passion for pediatric surgery. I am committed to continuous growth, personally and professionally. Through service, lifelong learning, and making a lasting impact in medicine. I’m excited for the journey ahead as I work toward my dream of becoming a pediatric surgeon.
