Founder
POP Tutors
South Africa
In 2023 I founded the sole proprietorship POP Tutors, an online tutoring business that targets STEM subjects (Science and Maths) for high school and university students. As a tutor for 10 years I know the importance of connecting students who are battling with maths and science with passionate Tutors who have mastered the subjects and fine tuned their skills. Our tutors are kind and compassionate people who are usually studying at university themselves. Together we aim to make science and maths fun and easy to understand, and focus on forming lasting connections with our students. If you're a student who is struggling with physics, chemistry or maths please contact us to help you improve your understanding and confidence in these subjects. If you are a tutor looking for an opportunity to share your knowledge with our students, send us your CV and we will be happy to meet with you.

Private Tutor
City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
I am a passionate and hardworking individual that has been a tutoring high school students, both in-person and online, privately for 8 years in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. In 2019 I extended my tutoring to undergraduate level Chemistry and am very dedicated to helping students who are feeling stuck or confused in their math and science subjects. If you know someone who needs some help improving their understanding in Maths and Science subjects you are welcome to message me. I'm also open to collaboration with high schools to help their students excel.

Mathematics Tutor
Self-Employed tutor
South Africa
I have been a private mathematics tutor since June 2015 helping other students reach their High School goals. Since I'm self employed my hours have ranged anywhere from 6 to 12 hours a week. I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy helping students overcome their anxieties about maths and feel confident in their abilities. I have worked with numerous students over the years with different personalities, strengths and abilities and I have developed a range of skills to deal with them. My goal is to help students excel and make them feel at ease about maths. My role as a tutor has been to teach students concepts they don't understand from school and provide them with the tools to answer questions on that work. I've often made use of textbooks and past papers to assist my students in seeing as many examples as possible. I encourage my students to work hard, ask questions and strive to do their best.

Tutorial Demonstrator
I have been employed by Stellenbosch University as a Tutorial demonstrator for Chemistry 111 for the Stellenbosch University medical students. This involves 3 hours of online tutorial sessions via Microsoft Teams, an hour of preparation and an hour of tutor meetings.

Practical Demonstrator
I have been employed by Stellenbosch University as a practical demonstrator for the Chemistry 234 course on Inorganic Chemistry. This commitment includes 3 hours of practical supervision of students and marking of student lab books weekly.

Tutorial Demonstrator
I have been employed part time by Stellenbosch university to assist the Chemistry 124 and 144 students with their tutorials. This commitment included 3 hours of answering student's questions and 1 hour of tutor training per week. Every other week I would assist the extra support students at a separate venue. Since COVID-19 lockdown I have been available to students online for questions and mark their tutorials every second week.

Laboratory Assistant
Stellenbosch
I was employed as a laboratory assistant by Prof Selwyn Mapolie at Stellenbosch University in the Inorganic Chemistry Department. I was involved in assisting a PhD student with her research on palladium organometallic complexes and their role in cancer therapy. I performed reactions and processed results using FTIR and NMR for monthly progress reports. My hours were approximately 10 hours a week (longer in November and December of 2018 and 2019) since I was finishing my final year of BSc Chemical Biology in 2019.
Education

Chemistry
My Masters project involved the synthesis and use of porous organic polymers (POPs) as sorbent materials in the extraction of phenolic compounds from wine. This was a preliminary study where we synthesized and characterized a novel POP material that showed over 89% extraction of selected phenolic compounds from standard solutions. When applied to wine, this material performed well despite the complex matrix of wine. This indicates the novel POP may be useful in industry, especially as a means to decontaminate water samples.

Chemistry
This Hons degree included inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry modules as well as several short special topics including intermolecular forces, medicinal chemistry, scientific writing and 2D chromatography amongst others. The special topics ran alongside a 3 month practical project aimed at building the lab and writing skills required to do a thesis-based Masters degree.
