I am proud to serve as the CEO/Chairman of California’s largest restaurant workers comp self-insured group, CRMBC (which stands for the CALIFORNIA RESTAURANT MUTUAL BENEFIT CORP). Traditional insurance is like a casino where the house always wins. Conversely, self-insured groups (SIGs) consistently outperform traditional insurance on every level: • Cost Efficiency: Unlike traditional insurers using funds for various purposes (huge buildings, football stadiums, cute lizard commercials), SIGs allocate premiums to cover claims. Overhead costs are vigilantly managed by a board of your fellow restaurant owners. • Empowered Oversight: Unlike traditional insurance, SIGs value your input and engagement. You not only have a voice but an active role in shaping claims decisions. • Mitigated Risk Impact. Unlike traditional insurance, a single adverse year doesn't lead to rate spikes. As a SIG stakeholder, you collaborate directly with underwriters and the board to analyze anomalies and implement safety strategies. • Ownership Identity: In a SIG, you are a vested co-owner alongside fellow restaurant peers. Your influence matters, ensuring your perspectives are acknowledged. • Dividend Potential: While we prioritize lean operations, we have historically returned excess savings to our members in the form of dividends. In my five-year plan, we're pursuing careful and steady growth. Our entrance criteria are stringent: dedication to safety, financial stability, alignment with our philosophy, and embracing a true ownership mentality. As we expand, we aim to stand out as the top choice amidst a tightening insurance market. But exclusivity remains vital. We're selective, admitting only the best. That means a strong operational focus, expert safety awareness, and active governance participation.

In 2012, I joined the board of CRMBC to help the group recover from a large deficit. As head of the strategic turnaround and litigation committees, we were able to take the group from an $80M deficit to a $20M surplus in less than a decade. We did this by strategic litigation against the bad actors, only allowing safety-conscious members in the group, two successful loss portfolio transfers, and the appointment of a new administrator led by the former Director of the Office of Self-Insured Programs for California.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxReno, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxReno event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. TEDx Reno is one of the most successful and competitive TEDx events in the country. Several of our speakers have gone on to speak at TED and the views of our videos on Youtube have reached over 150M.

Stanley Restaurant Management is the management company for a group of restaurants, bakery, wholesale food production and micro-markets located in Northern Nevada, most notably Old Granite Street Eatery and Sol Baked Cafe and Bakeshop.

Feed Our Heroes & Rounds 4 Heroes is an organized effort to bring fresh food each day to frontline workers and first responders at local health systems. The organization was formed the day the NV Governor announced that restaurants had to close their doors in March 2020. In a period of 8 weeks, we raised $250K, served over 36,000 meals, and kept over 20 restaurants in business. We accomplished three important goals: FEEDING THE FRONT LINE: Because of who they are coming into contact with, many of them have to stay separate from their families and cannot even go into grocery stores. ECONOMIC IMPACT This program also helps our hard-hit restaurant industry by reimbursing restaurants for the meals. This program is making it possible for restaurants to pay some employees and keep the economy moving. COMMUNITY SUPPORT It gives a way for the community to actively show their gratitude for this enormous sacrifice being made by the heroes while doing their part to stay home and flatten the curve. Organizer of an strikingly successful Opportunity Zone Summit in the early years of the program going into effect. We had over 1200 attendees, raised over $200K in 8 weeks, and attracted high level speakers and panelists from all over the country. Most exciting was the number of Opportunity Zone projects both in Nevada and around the country that were funded and completed as a result of this Summit.

Your Obamacare Advisors (YOA) is a Resource and Think Tank on All Things Obamacare. YOA is made up of a team of professionals (Attorneys, CPAs, HR Consultants, and Insurance Professionals) who help companies create strategic plans and take concrete action steps to implement Obamacare in their organizations. The YOA Team is committed to providing up to date information to their clients and monitoring changes so that their clients can focus on their businesses.

Assisted in the development and formation of the FreedomCare Benefit program and served as General Counsel advising the President and Board of Directors on all legal affairs. Responsible for all Affordable Care Act updates and compliance with applicable laws including ERISA, IRS code, captive and employment laws. Also advises the company on compliance with all regulatory agencies including the DOL, HHS, IRS, the State of South Dakota in which the captive is domiciled, and the laws of each state in which the captive operates. Simultaneous with this role, authored the book, "The Employer's Guide to Obamacare" and spoke on the ACA to employers, insurance companies, and HR conventions around the country. FreedomCare Benefits was a Guaranteed ACA compliance solution for employers who are subject to the employer mandate. It allows employers to cost effectively satisfy both the "A Penalty" and the "B Penalty" through the use of a turnkey captive program. FreedomCare is the only program of its kind in the country and is designed to help employers keep more of their money in their pockets while providing ACA compliant insurance to their employees. Freedomcare was sold successfully in 2017.

Co-Inventor of Patent #20120214122. WHITEN was a state of the art, hands-free, LED teeth whitening system utilizing technology similar to that used in a dentist's office but with a different delivery method. Took this invention through the manufacturing process to a retail product. Accepted a buy-out by partners in 2016.
