Kathryn Ruemmler

Kathryn Ruemmler is Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel at Goldman Sachs. In addition to serving on the firm’s Management Committee, Ms. Ruemmler is the Chair of the Firmwide Conduct Committee, Co-Vice Chair of the Firmwide Reputational Risk Committee, and a member of the Firmwide Enterprise Risk Committee. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Ms. Ruemmler was Global Chair of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice at Latham & Watkins LLP. She rejoined Latham’s practice after serving in the White House as Counsel to President Barack H. Obama. As President Obama’s longest-serving White House Counsel, Ms. Ruemmler advised the President on all legal matters related to domestic and foreign policy and national security. Ms. Ruemmler also served as a federal prosecutor for seven years, including as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General, Deputy Director of the Enron Task Force, and Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Earlier in her career, Ms. Ruemmler served as Associate Counsel to President William J. Clinton, and she clerked for Judge Timothy K. Lewis on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Ms. Ruemmler is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute. She earned a B.A. in English with honors from the University of Washington and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where she was Editor-in-Chief of The Georgetown Law Journal.
