Course: Advanced Undergraduate Biochemistry II (BIOLCHEM 452) - Led mandatory weekly discussion sections for 26 junior and senior undergraduate students enrolled in course - Created lesson plans and wrote homework assignments - Generated rubric and graded assignments due at the beginning of each lecture, as well as homeworks due for weekly discussions - Graded exams and kept track of all students’ grades using university’s “Canvas” system - Held weekly office hours, answered students’ questions about primary literature readings, reviewed lecture material for exams, and served as a resource for students interested in graduate school

Mentor: Patrice Fort, PhD - Monitored the rate of progression of diabetic retinopathy in vivo in α-crystallin knockout mice using optical coherence tomography and electroretinography - Analyzed diabetes-related changes in posttranslational modifications of α-crystallin proteins with western blotting - Determined the extent of retinal neurodegeneration in rodent models of diabetes with cell death detection ELISA - Utilized laser microdissection and quantitative reverse-transcription PCR to characterize α-crystallin expression in different layers of the diabetic mouse retina
