Lecturer in Creative Writing

Lecturer Creative Writing, English Department. Teaching Fiction (ENGL4070), teaching tools of fiction, short stories and flash fiction. Non-fiction (ENGL4060), lyric essay, personal essay, flash nonfiction, articles, etc. Taught first year writing (ENGL1010, ENGL 1005). Led students through creating an online literary magazine, Statement Magazine, carrying on a 70 year history. Students learned how to create a call for submissions, create a presence on social media, create events utilizing the infrastucture of the university, including the USU, craft a theme and mission statement and develop a critical eye for reviewing materials.

Serve on the Working Board for the Non-Profit of the Shirley Jackson Awards, engaged in finding jurors for the awards, curating its social media, and in running a once a year class as a fundraising activity.

Creative Writing Program for teens. Taught an intense three-credit month of thorough daily instruction in fiction. Morning classes were a one week look at the basics and tools of fiction for students cycling through, and afternoon classes were the same students studying fiction intensively, with generative exercises, tools, culminating in workshops and reading. I also taught a lecture in submitting your work to the entire cohort of 78 students.

Adjunct faculty in the BA program in Liberal Studies. LIT 437: American Horror Story: US Society as told through Horror and Speculative Fiction. ENGL 4900, Advanced Multi-genre Creative Writing. Co-taught LIT313: The Literary Communities of Los Angeles. A 4-credit course including community engagement in various literary communities throughout Los Angeles, including World Stage, Writers at Work, Avenue 50 Studios and 826LA. ENG/CIN 3290: The Art of Screenwriting: Students pitch, write the first act of and outline a screenplay while looking at film's affect on society. LIT333: Human Narrative and American Culture: a look at where students fit into the shifting narrative of this country and how they can change that narrative for the better.

Instructor to Antioch University Los Angeles MFA Graduate Teaching Trainees in the Professional Development Semester. Prepared students to be book coaches and instructors for inspiration2publication.com, an innovative platform for 2-4 week online writing classes. Provided consulting services to start-up online writing program, inspiration2publication. Created and developed a four week online course (CRW 562: Methods of Online Book Coaching) for post-MFA Book Coaches for that program. Provided expertise on book coaching best practices and mentor guidelines. . Oversaw course creation and implementation for this program. Monitored online forums and provided student experience summaries. Addressed student concerns and provided academic support for faculty on online classes and for Book Coaches. Identifed LMS (Sakai 2.9 and Edvance360) issues and tracked solutions. Professional Development Semester closed by new MFA chair.

Liaison between administration and alumni. Alumni networking, work with council in alumni outreach and recruiting efforts. Organized MFA alumni breakfast at AWP and speak at MFA commencements as part of this outreach.

Presided over all meetings of the AULA Alumni Association and meetings of the Alumni Council. Served on the Executive Committee and Nominating Committee of the Alumni Council. Liaison between Administration, Department of Alumni Relations, Marketing, the Alumni Association and the Council. Continued duties of board membership (outreach projects, volunteer projects and speaking engagements).

Served on the working board for Women Who Submit an organization that seeks to empower women, nonbinary and femme identifying writers by creating physical and virtual spaces for sharing information, supporting and encouraging submissions to literary journals, and clarifying the submission and publication process. Served in financial planning, fundraising and event organizing.

Instructor. Private workshops in Novel, Novel Revision, The Art of the Short Story, Fiction, Fiction I, Fiction II and Genre: Worldbuilding in Fiction. Small 8 person workshops, 8 weeks in length including workshops, critique and instruction in the tools of fiction and completing and revising a novel.

Ran network of instructors and book coaches, keeping classes up to date and functional in an online program whose mission was to provide affordable online creative writing classes and writing coach options for the widest possible range of writers in every writing community. The program was produced and staffed by graduates of the acclaimed MFA program of Antioch University Los Angeles. Provided one-on-one book coaching in short stories, fiction and screenwriting. Taught 2-4 week online courses in: Screenwriting, Submitting Work, Horror Writing, A Writer's Toolbox (beginner fiction), Flash Fiction and more.

90 days of community and literary events given across Los Angeles to create community support for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and neuroatypical communities in Los Angeles. • Overall team support for Thursday programming for the duration of the program • Outreach and coordination with event planners, location management, social media, advertising. Support on the day or night of events. • Created and coordinated events with organizers, Mystery Writing Workshop, Shades & Shadows horror readings. • Created and curated event: Through a Glass Darkly: Panel Discussion & Workshop with four writers at work in detailing contemporary social issues through their horror writing. • Support team for Little Tokyo PUBLISH! project, collecting and publishing stories from locals.

Taught weekly writing workshops in the Amherst Method and intensive courses in Flash Prose.
