Established in 1937 by Jessie Overholtzer. CEF is an international organization, the motto being, "Reaching Children Worldwide". CEF Atlantic is specifically concerned with the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

I came to MWC as the Youth Pastor and transitioned to the associate role in 1992. This is one of the larger and perhaps the largest church in the Atlantic Provinces. I gained invaluable experience and training, serving under Pastor L. D. Buckingham. I am grateful to him and the church for the number of years that we had there. Good leadership spawns a desire to lead and so in the last couple of years there, I became increasingly restless and wanted to have the opportunity to give expression to the church that God was birthing in my heart. I left with both regret and excitement believing that I needed to take my turn as Senior Pastor, whether that meant success or failure. Another step out of my "comfort zone".

I look back on these years as the sweet spot of ministry. I had no idea what I was doing and consequently it drove me to lean upon God. I have enduring relationships from this brief time and wonderful memories at the way that God moved and blessed. The life lesson for me is that more that I am in control of my life, the less room there is for God to control. In my weakness, I have no control and God is free to work. Also I discovered in this time a life and ministry mentor in Rev. Fred Moore. He was a God-given healer in my life. I love him dearly to this day.

I left my previous position somewhat disillusioned over the relationship that I had with the Sr. Pastor. My discouragement caused me to consider the possibility of working in a Christian College. While I was at UWC, I earned a second undergrad degree and discovered that my heart was still in the local church.

This was my first ministry position and I did most everything joyfully and some of it effectively. I had no idea how to properly manage my time or my priorities but I worked diligently and I worked hard. God as always was faithful to bless.

We are privileged to have a number of legal professionals attending our church. Also the local universities, University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas, give us a window on the world. One of our lawyers became involved in the Christian Legal Fellowship, composed of practitioners and students, and subsequently asked that I become the chaplain. I am grateful and exhilarated at the opportunity to network with these men and women.

Several years ago the RCMP suffered a deep organizational wound when four officers were slain in a small town in Alberta. One of the memorial services was held at our church. RCMP chaplains are chosen by members of the organization. An outgoing chaplain left a vacancy in this position. Largely due to the fact that we hosted this service, I was invited to serve as the chaplain for "J" Division, District 2, and the provincial HQ building. I have gained deeper and increasing appreciation for the men and women who lay their lives on the line to create and protect peace the "right".

A church without walls … CLC is an inclusive Christian fellowship focused on Kingdom interests in its surrounding community. We are associated with the Atlantic Convention of Baptist churches but our governance is minimal and non-hierarchical. We believe that the work is outside the church building and our identity is not Sunday centric. We welcome all who seek to journey with us. We are an every day church for everyday people, becoming every day followers of Christ. My return to the pastorate … a very long story.
