About
I am a Doctoral candidate at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin, focusing on in-situ structural analysis of membrane-associated EHD2 protein complexes around caveolae using cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Before my PhD, I worked on cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) during my master’s thesis at the Gene Center Munich, investigating structural effects of NEMF protein point mutations on ribosome quality control pathways. I have a strong interest in cryo-ET, cryo-EM, and image analysis. These techniques enable the visualization of biological structures in their native environment at near-atomic resolution, providing a bridge between molecular structure and cellular function and advance understanding of complex biological systems.

Experience

Master Thesis
Investigated the role of NEMF in stalled ribosome quality control in human cells. Engineered 3xFLAG-tagged mutant NEMF constructs and overexpressed them in human cells. Performed affinity purification of NEMF bound to 60S ribosomal subunits. Applied cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to study the molecular basis of NEMF’s function in ribosome quality control.

Research Intern
Faculty of Biology, Biocenter LMU Munich
Investigated LTP localization in colonized Lotus japonicus roots using immunogold labeling. Prepared samples and grids for transmission electron microscopy (TEM), including resin embedding and sectioning. Additionally, performed segmentation of FIB-SEM datasets using Amira software (ThermoFisher Scientific), applying deep learning techniques for image processing and label prediction.

Research Intern
Faculty of Biology, Biocenter LMU Munich
Studied pleiotropy and transcriptional bursting dynamics of Even-skipped gene enhancers in Drosophila embryos. Designed reporter constructs using In-Fusion cloning. Established PP7/PCP RNA tagging system to analyze transcriptional dynamics at single-nucleus resolution.
Education

Structural Biology (Cryo-ET and Cryo-EM)
PhD candidate investigating the in-situ structural organization of membrane-associated EHD2 protein complexes at caveolae using cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). This research combines advanced sample preparation techniques, subtomogram averaging, and image analysis to visualize EHD2 assemblies in their native cellular environment. The goal is to gain mechanistic insights into the role of EHD2 in membrane remodeling and caveolae dynamics.
