Karan Shah, PMP®
Project Coordinator | Business & Technical Analyst @ SGI
About
I did not plan my career. I built it, one smart decision at a time. I moved from Australia to Canada and started over in a new country, a new industry, and a new context. No safety net. No roadmap. Just the belief that if I understood the problem well enough, I could figure out the solution. That belief has taken me from coordinating $6M+ energy projects in Australia to catching fraud patterns at one of Canada's largest banks, to streamlining legal operations, to now leading cross-functional projects and analytics at Saskatchewan Government Insurance, all before the age of 30. The thread through all of it? Whenever I participated in discussions, I focused on identifying insights that others might have overlooked. Not because I was the loudest voice, but because I actually listened to every team in the room and understood what they each needed. That is where good analysis lives. Not in the data itself, but in the space between what the numbers say and what the business actually needs to hear. That moment clicked for me early, when I watched a single well-framed insight change a decision that would have cost a team months of rework. I have been chasing that moment ever since.I am competitive by nature. I hate leaving things half-finished, half-understood, or half-optimized. Outside of work, I am constantly reading, learning, and investing in my own growth because the best thing I can bring to any team is a sharper version of myself than I was last year. But I never lose sight of the people around me. Relationships are what make projects actually work, and I take that seriously.I am currently looking for a Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or Business Analyst role where the work is meaningful, the team is serious, and there is room to grow.If that sounds like your team, I would love to talk.

Experience

Project Coordinator | Business & Technical Analyst
Saskatchewan, Canada
• Built and maintained Power BI and Excel dashboards for leadership, covering KPIs and performance metrics across the claims portfolio. Replaced manual report packs and gave teams one consistent source to work from in monthly reviews. • Led requirements gathering, scope definition, and UAT coordination for internal IT reporting solutions. Worked through acceptance criteria with portfolio managers, business stakeholders, and IT before each deployment; all solutions shipped on scope and on schedule. • Managed end-to-end delivery of a KPI reporting initiative from kick-off through go-live. Ran gap analysis on data quality, automated manual reporting workflows through process improvement, and removed manual reporting dependencies. • Conducted trend analysis and root-cause reviews with senior directors, identifying recurring operational patterns and turning findings into structured continuous improvement actions. • Coordinated project intake, scoping, and RACI matrix development across operations, finance, and business insights using Jira and SharePoint. Tracked deliverables and milestones across the full project lifecycle. • Prepared variance reports by pulling and consolidating data from multiple systems, tightening SQL validations, and aligning KPI definitions across reporting platforms to close reconciliation gaps. • Documented process flows, data governance standards, and reporting procedures; workflow analysis that made the reporting environment maintainable by anyone on the team.

Reporting and Financial Controls Analyst
Saskatchewan, Canada
• Ran structured data analysis across large transaction volumes in advanced Excel, identified recurring fraud patterns, and drove detection procedure updates through requirements gathering and stakeholder coordination with the compliance team. • Identified a verification gap through workflow analysis during high-volume periods, documented findings with supporting data, gathered requirements from compliance, and coordinated a rewrite of the frontline verification checklist. • Prepared KPI reports and fraud trend summaries for compliance reviews and internal audits; complex transaction data turned into clear, plain-language reporting that non-technical managers could read and act on directly. • Applied risk control frameworks to regular transaction reviews, flagging high-risk cases and escalating through established controls to prevent losses before they cleared. • Designed and delivered onboarding training for new hires covering compliance tools, reporting standards, and case procedures; requirements documentation and knowledge transfer work that shortened ramp-up time across the team. • Contributed to process improvement by gathering requirements and supporting workflow redesign for updates to fraud detection and monitoring parameters.

Junior Project Manager
MSquare Energy
Australia
• Coordinated delivery of concurrent energy projects, maintaining project schedules, charters, and RAID logs in MS Project. Milestone updates went to stakeholders before each status review so schedule performance stayed visible across the portfolio. • Applied Critical Path Method (CPM) to monitor task dependencies and catch schedule risks before they became deadline problems. When risks surfaced, escalated to procurement, and coordinated resolution to keep the project baseline intact. • Recovered lost schedule across concurrent projects by returning to the approved baseline, identifying tasks that could run in parallel, and restructuring resource allocation; no scope changes required. • Managed the full procurement lifecycle through SAP and Ariba: processed purchase requisitions and purchase orders, matched supplier invoices using three-way matching, applied cost codes, and routed payments through the approval workflow. • Handled vendor management through Ariba, including supplier onboarding, submission standards, cost coding guidance, and vendor master data maintenance across all active suppliers. • Built Advanced Excel cost forecasting models and equipment utilization trackers with scenario analysis to support budget planning and reduce capital planning variance across the portfolio. • Conducted spend analysis and cost-benefit analysis across concurrent projects, monitored cash flow, and flagged cost deviations to project managers ahead of each review cycle. • Managed scope management and change control end-to-end; all change requests documented in the RAID log with budget and schedule impact recorded, and nothing moved forward without written approval. • Delivered a cross-functional project from charter to close, managing WBS, scheduling, and procurement coordination across multiple teams, including direct supplier engagement on material specifications and delivery timelines.
