As a post-doctoral fellow my primary responsibility is to conduct research, publish research findings, collaborate with other researchers.

I have been a university lecturer at the Department of Teacher Education, University of Turku. More specifically I was teaching at the UTUPeda Center for University Pedagogy and Research. My teaching concentrated in the field of University Pedagogy (basics, intermediate, advanced). My main responsibilities were teaching, researching, and curriculum development, but I also had some administration duties and professional development duties. Additionally, I have been the responsible teacher of the course 'Multicultural Education' where students were mainly exchange students from various countries both in Bachelor's and Master's level.

Emjoy is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the exchange of ideas among teachers in different countries, to combine them and to inspire teachers to embrace joy in education, no matter where they are. We started as a small group of three educators with enough passion for education to share it with fellow educators! We organised events t to bring together teachers and offerd them opportunities for professional development and networking. EmJoy is registered in Finland and aims to promote the exchange of ideas among teachers in different countries, and create a community of support and inspiration that will lead to joyful teaching and learning for all. Seminars and monthly meet-ups started in Helsinki, Finland and in Zug, Switzerland and now continued online with participants from numerous countries. BeanBakers is an innovative and vibrant company focusing on software and research services. As a Research and Product Development Expert my responsibilities were to organise and implement research projects for our clients. This includes the creation of research tools such as surveys, data analysis, and reporting results as well as training individuals and companies in conducting their own research. In addition, I developed interactive training sessions for individuals and companies on a variety of topics related to communication and research.

My teaching experience at the University of Turku started as a teacher assistant in the courses 'Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching', 'Cultural Responsiveness, Diversity, and Inclusiveness' and 'Multicultural Education'. Since January 2019, I have been the responsible teacher of the course 'Multicultural Education' where students are mainly exchange students from various countries both in Bachelor's and Master's level, and 'Scientific Writing' which is only directed for the students of the International Master's Degree Programmes called 'Education and Learning'. I have also been assisting in the master's thesis seminars and had presentations as guest lecturer in the courses 'Comparative and International Education' and 'Special Education in International Contexts'.

I studied in the Doctoral Programme on Educational Policy, Lifelong Learning and Comparative Education Research (KEVEKO). My doctoral research was on thesis supervision in the international master's degree programmes and examined the expectations and the intercultural relationship of this academic process as well as the pedagogical approaches of the supervisors. During my studies I succeeded in publishing four peer-reviewed articles, collected and analysed quantitative and qualitative data, presented in various national and international conferences. Networking in conferences has been a valuable experience which led to my one-month research visit at the University of Auckland. In addition, I attended workshops and courses related to methodology, university pedagogy and writing grant proposals. Since I highly value the positive impact that the sense of belonging and being part of a supportive community have, I initiated multiple social and academic events (such as a 5-day writing retreat, and a 3-part workshop for enhancing intercultural competences in work community).

As a master’s student, I participated as a research assistant, contributing to the development of the questionnaire and the selection of instruments to be included in the questionnaire. I was responsible for creating the online Webropol tool, conducting the pilot studies and contacting universities and key people to ask that the questionnaire be distributed. Moreover, I wrote reports of the results and was the contact person for answering any inquiries.

My personal curiosity and research interest in learning and knowing as much as possible on thesis supervision practices and intercultural education led to this research visit. I selected the University of Auckland for a number of reasons. Firstly, due to the contact I had with Associate Professor Barbara Grant since 2015 when I met her at the European Conference of Educational Research (ECER). Barbara Grant is one of the most well known researchers on graduates’ thesis supervision and academic identities. Secondly, the Department of Critical Studies had and has a number of projects and publications focusing on the transformative potential of education in the society and world. Many staff members of the aforementioned department are specialists in cross-cultural comparative research, cultural identity, doctoral practice and pedagogy as well as supervision. During my research visit I attended doctoral thesis and research seminars, met other researchers and doctoral students who we shared similar research interests, I presented my doctoral thesis as well as what an article-based thesis is. I also co-facilitated a workshop with Dr.Linlin Xu related to co-authorship in supervision. Lastly, I attended and presented at the annual conference of the New Zealand Association for Research in Education.

As an active member of ESN Uni Turku I have assisted in organizing various cultural events, trips, competitions and meetings for international students (mainly exchange students). I have been the secretary of the ESN Uni Turku board for one semester (spring semester 2013). Our common goals are to provide help during their first weeks (orientation presentations, practical matters etc), create fascinating memories, make their visit and studies in Finland unforgettable.
