Kaela Clark
Mechanical Design Intern @ Pyrrhus Aeronautics
About
My name is Kaela Clark and I am currently a mechanical engineering fourth-year undergrad and Gold Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with an industrial design minor. I am passionate about design and creativity and enjoy developing creative solutions and improvements for existing designs. As the Mechanical Lead of Team Limbo in the Medical Robotics club on campus, I am able to integrate what I learn from my classes in a tangible application in an innovative way to change the biomedical field. In Team Limbo, we are designing and fabricating a mechanical prosthetic equipped with haptic feedback for transradial amputees. As Mechanical Lead, I oversee three sub-team leads, plan, organize, and run two meetings a week, leading our team towards the goal of a fully assembled prototype at the end of the semester. I worked with Smurfit Westrock for two internships; one at a paper mill and the other at a packaging machinery location. At the paper mill, I designed and executed engineering solutions to improve efficiency and safety while simultaneously managing capital projects and coordinating with contractors. I earned the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt through a continuous improvement project. At the machinery location, I designed machinery parts and assessed quality using CMM and other inspection tools. I learned new CAD languages at both locations and worked with other engineers and departments to accomplish my projects.
