About

Storytelling is the root of my skills, whether I'm writing advertising copy, managing a freelance contractor or editing a publication. I've always been a writer, and I love the craft and process. Over time, though, I've also developed my project and people management skills - mostly by observing and borrowing ideas from other people who excel in those roles. Specialties: Writing skills include newspaper, magazine, blog, advertising, television, radio, and Web styles. Excellent command of Associated Press style. Versed in HTML, Dreamweaver, Wordpress, SEO practices and MS Word. Able to create copy for engaging annual reports, collateral pieces and internal communications. Full understanding of branding and the importance of protecting trademarks through consistent use. Proven project management skills. Able to use Windows, Mac OS and even Linux.

This is where I got my first taste of agency life in all its variety. One month, I'd devote my time to earning media for a national youth soccer tournament. Next, I would work with an international mining conglomerate set to explore North America's largest copper deposit. I'd follow that up with putting on an event at the White House.

It takes pressure and heat to forge a writer's skills. And that's exactly what I had at the Tribune. I covered beats filled with strong personalities - media-hungry sheriffs and grandstanding politicians were just the beginning. In the process, I developed the speed, accuracy and interviewing skills that only come from working at a fast-paced, hungry newspaper.

After graduating from ASU, I had one thought: Put my degree to work anywhere I could. My first chance came at a newspaper, even though I was trained in broadcasting. Close enough - and a great move. Working with experienced, committed editors developed my skills, my confidence and my understanding of journalism's role in society.

I helped Arizona's oldest environmental organization reset and re-energize its efforts to improve the state's natural and built environments. Through social and traditional media, we brought more stakeholders into initiatives that lead to a better Arizona. I oversaw a comprehensive update to our membership collateral and worked on website content, speech writing, social media content and other collateral needs on an ongoing basis.

You know the nonprofit formula because you see it all the time: Someone tells a weepy story and shakes you down for a donation. That's no longer good enough - everyone's tired of it. I devote my time to shaping messages for Make-A-Wish that show how our mission helps kids feel better as they face life-threatening medical conditions. I'm convinced our mission is essential. My priority is turning admirers into supporters - and I know telling the right story the right way is the first step. One of my favorite tasks is publishing the Wish Nation blog. It's the first official Make-A-Wish blog, and I took the lead in managing all facets of its creation - early concepts, creating an editorial calendar and managing the ongoing content flow.
