New Orbital Highway Truck Route Contract 2– Doha, Qatar (48 Km) Client: JV Contractor QDVC - ASHGAL The New Orbital Highway Contract 2 stemmed from the intention to bypass Doha City by connecting Salwa Road and North Relief Road, thus relieving the existing traffic congestion expected to increase in the coming years. NOH2 consists of 10 lanes (5 in each direction) for light vehicles with additional Collectors/Distributor roads. Four separate dedicated truck lanes (2 in each direction) run parallel to the Orbital from Salwa Road to Junction 5 where a 320m long cut and cover tunnel splits away from the light vehicle carriageway towards Junction 12 Dukhan interchange. The typical cross-section has a provision for an additional 2 future lanes in each direction therefore the total width has a provision for 18 lanes of traffic. When completed, the road network will provide access to the existing and planned developments via the 8 interchanges. NOH2 is connecting local roads and existing highways via 8 interchanges with various types of civil structures to be designed and built by the project’s team. These include bridges, viaducts, underpasses and tunnels and will integrate pedestrian and bicycle paths along the entire route. Justin has been involved with this project from the preliminary stage to the detailed design stage working with engineer counterparts from Melbourne, Australia. His initial role was to provide detailed design calculations and models of clean water channels, dirty water channels, detention basins, cross drainage culverts and longitudinal drainage networks. For this project, 3d modelling has been done in AutoCAD Civil3D as well as drafting. Calculations and design analysis for longitudinal drainage networks was done on Microdrainage. He performs routine checking of plan outputs from drafters. He also coordinates with the lead office in Australia and also with drafters in the Manila office to ensure that plans are delivered with great quality.
