I have been employed at Hamilton Distributing Company since graduating from Ferris State University in 2009. My primary role here has been a 50/50 split of project management as well as sales. I often travel the state of Michigan meeting with medium to large agricultural producers, co-op's, grain elevators, and other marketers of grain. These clients that I meet with often have a goal or objective--how to better handle incoming grain, or how to gain more storage capacity, increase drying capacity, or how to overall gain efficiency. That is where I come in, perform an overall assessment of the current operation and come up with solutions. I then draw, quote, and figure up plans and processes to solve the issues they are having. I work alongside one to two other employees in my role where I delegate tasks to them such as drawing and doing layout on the computer. I present quotes and drawings to customers and do my best to negotiate and secure the sale. Hamilton Distributing is a smaller sized company with under 20 employees. Due to number of employees and nature of the work I tend to be heavily involved with projects after they are secured. I am often scheduling our own crews, subcontractors, cranes, redi-mix, man-lifts, excavators, etc. to keep the project going. I also communicate project goals and objectives to our crews, foreman, and other subcontractors. I keep records of progress, cost tracking, etc. and I am very involved with the final billing and project close-out.
