Additional Background - I grew up on a farm in South East North Dakota. During my sophomore year of high school, I was selected to attend the North Dakota Leadership Seminars in Bismarck, ND and from there I was selected as one of two ND reps to attend the Hugh O'Brien World Leadership Congress held that year in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The following year as a high school Junior, I toured countries in Europe as a HOBY Ambassador learning and interacting with people from Belgium, France, England, & Scotland. As a farm kid, I learned the value of hard work at an early age and had three part time jobs by my senior year of high school. In January of 1994, before I graduated, I enlisted in the ND Army National Guard starting what would later become a challenging and rewarding career. I had always considered myself "lucky" when it came to finding various jobs throughout my life. It was not until I was well into my thirties that I realized it was not luck! It was hard work, determination, passion, loyalty, and a willingness to serve with and for others in causes I truly believe in!
